Any help/guidance on this, HIGHLY appreciated.
VEHICLE : 2011 Ford F-250 8 Cylinder 6.7L Turbo Diesel OHV Super Duty 4WD
ISSUE : Engine Code P20EE (Nox Catalyst Efficiency) light came on. Ford says "Need a new DPF Filter", and it will cost $10,000
ALSO : Code P0472 (Exhaust Pressure Sensor) came on with it - but Ford just replaced that.
My understanding is this is a "carbon buildup" issue in the DPF Filter. Ford says it happens because we have "too much city mileage" on the Truck, it only has 70k miles after 13 years.
Mechanic says the unit can be removed locally and taken to Houston to a specialist that will clean it - and it requires a very specialized service person not found in BCS... and that will cost about 2k
HOWEVER, we've been told :
1. First try a "system regen" - which I apparently I can do using Forscan? Apparently if we run a "regen" it could very likely fix itself.
2. Mechanic says one can remove the DPF filter and re-program the ECU (engine control unit) to bypass the DPF and EGR (exhaust gas recirculation system), which I assume means it's removed and a straight pipe is added in it's place.
Advice? Experience?
