also if buying from private party I'd want my mechanic to look it over. should I request the same if buying from a dealership?

I am going through this now myself. I have no idea how anyone successfully finds a vehicle on Facebook Marketplace. I have been using AutoTempest lately which aggregates the searches of the other sites. It's not perfect but is decent.

If you happen to be looking for a CPO vehicle, I have found that some brands allow you to search their own database of CPO cars around the country.

Marketplace is a shlt show to buy and sell. I got lucky when shopping for my daughter, an older guy posted a car for a great price, I messaged, then he pulled it down cause he got slammed with people wanting to buy it and wire money from Colombia.

I drove across town immediately to meet him and made the deal.

yeah, I experienced that last time I sold a vehicle on there back in 2022. Not surprised it hasn't changed. Dealt with it for a bit b/c I knew I had a fair price on my ask. Got my asking within a week of posting. May not have mattered and likely didn't but all the folks who told me it wasn't worth that got a message back when it was sold for ask.

I've purchased a couple of vehicles from 100% rated sellers. BMW and Chevy. The latter (2500 Suburban) I drove back from Dallas 23 years ago. The BMW I had delivered to my then mechanic.

All easy peezy.
