Headed across the Atlantic for a while this summer; no idea on where to legitimately start buying two cars for our family ... while I can try and figure it out all alone, I believe in the power of TexAgs ...

Any recommended European used vehicle purchase websites are greatly appreciated and any ideas for good cars / good value vehicles (obviously used) for a 2-3 year driving need within the budget would be icing on the cake.

One car for daily commute to work from country house to city job, the other for wife to take kids to school -- and one needs to be the "vacation" car when we take longer trips. 2 adults, 2 almost teenagers.

Hey jagvocate,
I don't have anything constructive to add to you vehicle need, but just was curious are your kids going to school at ASH (American School of The Hague) in Wassenaar?

I spent my middle school years (7th - 8th) in Wassenaar going to ASH and loved it. Fun memories and great friends made during that time, still keep in touch with quite a few them.
Not sure you have spent time in Holland or not, but in case you haven't, make sure you eat at a few frite shops and get some frites met pinda sauce (French fries with hot peanut sauce -- delic!). Also introduce your kids to chocolate hagel sandwiches (De Ruijter chocolade hagelslaag. We always thought "puur" / dark hagel was the best). Occasionally I find some Deruitjer hagel here in the Houston area and enjoy those sandwiches, and all four of my kids love them. Yeah, it's just "sprinkles", but it's "real" chocolate.

Lease

Select Car Lease, VWP Shortlease, Blankert Shortlease, Enterprise Shortlease, Supershortlease/HuurMij, and KINTO offer short-lease tailored for expats and temporary users.
Prices often start around 295-800+ per month depending on the car (e.g., small hatchback vs. SUV), mileage allowance (e.g., 1,000-2,000+ km/month), and extras.
Some allow drive-away within 24-48 hours with minimal paperwork.

In Italy, they won't let Americans buy a car. You can if seems in The Netherlands but why bother with the hassle of buying and selling for 3 months?

cool. just remember too, space isn't what you are used to in the US. i doubt you'll want anything too large driving around cramped European cities. my 4 series feels like a giant tank sometimes on UK roads and in carparks
