I am looking to trade in my 2009 Chevy 2500HD diesel (I bought a 2020 2500HD diesel but held on to the old one) for a mid range daily drive SUV. Currently have a Land Rover Discovery that husband and I share. (He has an impractical sports car and I have 2 impractical trucks.) Just want something practical that gets decent gas mileage that I can drive to work and to places within an hour or 2.

Looking at a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with 20K miles, a 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe with 8K miles and a 2025 Ford Bronco Sport with 2.7K miles. All priced within $1-$2K of each other. All have my "must haves" of heated seats, heated steering wheel and keyless entry. Grand Cherokee Limited has the most features but has the highest mileage.

I was excited about the Wrangler 4xe (my commute is within it's electric range) until I did some research and found all sorts of negative reviews and realized the entire 4xe line has been discontinued. I'm 95% convinced to mark it off the list.

Leaning towards the Ford Bronco Sport because it is a demo with very low mileage. But, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has more bells and whistles and a nicer interior.

Any suggestions, especially from anyone that owns any of these vehicles?

Hard no on the Jeep products.

If you buy a Bronco sport I'd look at a badlands with the 2.0 turbo 4. All other trims are turbo 3 cylinders. While not a bad little engine, I find the NVH is a bit annoying.

Have you considered something else like a Ford Maverick or leftover Ford Escape? They both offer a hybrid version with great fuel economy.

Others in this category I'd consider:
RAV4, venza, Tucson, Sportage, CX5, CX50, CR-V,

No to any Jeeps. If you want a daily driver for practicality, you probably want something pretty reliable as well, right? Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V would be my go-tos.

I have a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limated with close to 50,000 miles that I drive everywhere, around town, road trips, vacations and I love it. Gets around 19mpg in town and 24 to 25mpg on the highway.

Try a ford explorer or edge. Best ride.

Would it be correct to say your price range is upper $20's to lower $30's?

Low to mid 30s is ideal. This is a 4th vehicle that will be a daily commuter with good gas mileage a primary consideration. My only deal breaker must haves are heated seats, Apple car play, keyless entry and power lift gate. Not looking for a luxury car for this one.

How strong is your preference for an American manufacturer? A must?

It's more that I want something that can be serviced locally. We have a Land Rover and a Jaguar that we have to drive over an hour to get serviced. It is a total pain. We are on our 3rd Land Rover and love the vehicles but decided we are done with buying cars that can't be serviced locally. So that pretty much limits me to Ford, GMC/Chevy, Jeep/Dodge, Toyota, or Hyundai (which I'm not crazy about.)

Given the parameters - SUV, great gas mileage, Carplay, basic "luxury" features, and the manufacturers in your area - I'd be hard pressed to recommend something other than a Hybrid RAV4.

If you aren't going off road, cross off the grand cherokee and wrangler. They're good and really off road, but ride rough on the road. Of the 3, bronco sport is the best one on pavement by a lot. Hondas and toyotas suggested are even better.

But my sister got a grand cherokee because "it's cute" and she doesn't care how rough the ride is compared to the other options.

Coming from a 2009 2500 diesel, I assume they will all ride like a dream

Got kid CPO Acura RDX and it's been great. Comfortable. Easy to drive. Has all the features of a late model 2019 you'd want. Heated seats. Bluetooth. Etc. I think it was $26K? Has about 70K miles on it.

You are literally describing a use case for a used Tesla Model Y/3 that is still under the 8 year / 125k mile battery warranty.

It's really hard to beat a Toyota Hybrid for practical daily use, fuel economy, and reliability. My wife drives a Hybrid Highlander and it averages a legit 31mpg on regular gas and has been problem free. If you don't need that much space a Rav 4 would meet your needs.

if you're driving a truck now, and considering Jeeps or a bronco I'd suggest a 4runner.

I don't know if the newer Bronco Sports have a power liftgate - my daughter's 22 - you have to pull down manually to close. The auto stop/start is a little harsher on it that others - I will put the delete on it soon - haven't worried about it since she's away at college. MPG is about 27 on the highway. Not a bad small SUV.

Just rented a RAV4 this past weekend - I think it was a 26 - seemed nicer than the Bronco Sport and got little over 35 MPG on the highway.

If you are not opposed to EV - I think Teslag is correct IMO and i'm not an EV fan. Range anxiety is a big issue for me and I don't like to sit for 40 min waiting for a charge in the event I have a long drive but since it's not your primary vehicle shouldn't be an issue.

I have a 2023 Grand Cherokee that is nearing 100k miles and it has been bulletproof. I think it rides pretty darn well, but several miles of my commute is a washboarded out dirt road so I need something that does well on dirt and pavement.

I'd steer clear of any Stellantis vehicles, and this coming from a long time Jeep GC owner. My 2017 WK2 is the best car I've ever owned (and I've owned a lot) but service at the dealership for warranty anything was like sending it to the local high school shop class. Every single dealership in my area.

Also, they've neutered the newer versions such that they don't even pretend to offer the same kind of utility anymore (if you want true off-road capabilities or "trail rated" options). You'll need aftermarket to address that now. Electrical/quality issues have plagued Stellantis across the board and it's so hit or miss I personally won't take the chance on anything in their lineup anymore.

Toyota Highlander/Grand Highlander lineup is much more compelling at the same/cheaper price point.

What about one of the new generation Toyota Venzas? Believe they are Hybrid. We used to have a previous gen one and loved it. Camry chassis that sat up nice and high.

Discontinued and now replaced as the crown Signia.

Poor venza orphaned two times.

I'd buy the Grand Cherokee.

Definite no on the Wrangler. I'm miserable after driving mine more than 50 miles at one sitting. But, it's great for getting groceries.

The kind of mileage you're talking about is nothing for a Grand Cherokee.
