I purchased a new vehicle in December from a dealership in Michigan. I paid a $500 title and registration fee for the dealer to use a third party to handle title and registration.

The plates and registration came in, but have not received the title. I have called, texted and emailed the sales guy and his manager.

Finally today they emailed me saying I need to go apply for the title to the state.

What, if any, recourse do I have to get the title? I assume they aren't willing to refund me my $500 for the title fee.

A duplicate title costs $10 from the state. I'd just pay the $10 and move on with my life

Thanks. I appreciate the advice and agree. Is that something I need to go to the county tax office for? Or is that a state deal?

File a complaint with DMV. You will get a fast resolution.

You need to get your money back.

If it's a new car, you need to get the MSO and paperwork the dealer provided you, and Texas emissions inspection if you are in an emissions county.

Make an appointment with the tax office and give it all to them.

Did you finance the car or pay cash? If you financed it, then the bank should have the title until you pay off the loan.
