Cluster - 5172329AD (just in case)

ORC - 4896901AE

In my too big to fail WK, I'm looking for the two items above. The Cluster can be used, mine is being repaired, but the dealership is telling me the ORC must be new then programmed to the Jeep. They can't find the ORC, my cluster is getting overhauled.

The original problem was the car quit starting reliably, particularly under 60, unless I disconnected the battery for 15 seconds first. There was an ignition recall that I'd hoped would fix it, but no. Battery, Starter and solenoid have all been replaced.

If I can't find an ORC, or a work around, the car will be a brick I'm told.

Ideas for locating the ORC, or how to work around it having to be in the starting sequence?

no chance you'll be able to bypass the airbag module.

is your current one failed or something? or you just believe that it might be failed?

Dealerships don't typically stock, and aren't able to get electronic parts, for cars that old. Many dealer techs have never even touched a 20yr old Jeep. The airbag controller seems like a part FCA would obsolete after a 5-7 years.

The bigger question is whether FCA will allow you to use a used module in their programming software. Some manufacturers vin lock parts like this, and you need 3rd party services to "reset" the module to factory specs. It looks like there's several resource online that will rebuild your existing module.

I'd check with an independent shop that works on Jeeps for a second opinion.

There are ~10 used modules for sale on ebay assuming they don't have a vin lock.

After the ignition recall failed to fix the issue, I had the dealer diagnose the issue. They came up with an error in the speedometer cluster electronics and the airbag module. The cluster is out for repair, they said the OCR could not be. I've got feelers out for an OCR and work around for it. This post is part of that.

The Dealership describes the OCR issue as an internal fault. Gonna see what they have to say

They just answered my email and said they could not repair it. Somehow, I have to find one that's brand new and never been in a car.

If you're open to DIY, AlfaOBD can write vin codes to used modules on FCA cars.

Not sure if it'll work with an airbag module, but it's worth doing some research.
