My wife loves the styling. We had a Volvo a long time ago and it was a pretty good vehicle. expensive to fix but it was built like a tank and comfy.

Just curious about the newer SUVs.

I have a customer that has one. They love the car and overall its pretty reliable. As they have gotten up in mileage (over 100K), its been the standard small oil leaks from forced induction seals here and there, a suspension bushing, tie rod, broken cup holder, etc. I also had to replace a few pieces on the liftgate system over time. There were a few electrical glitches but that was due to a failing battery.

Volvos IMO just have little problems here and there and nickel and dime you to death until you throw your hands up in the air.

Yeah, you wonder if that's just the case with everything, except maybe Toyota.

I have a 16 Odyssey with 115k on it and we were planning to put 150 on it and keep it a while longer even though we are empty nesters now and don't need the van anymore. The damn thing wouldn't start this morning and is doing something weird electrically. New alternator and battery less than a year ago.

Overall, while the Odyssey has been fantastic for raising a family and all the kids activities and moves to college and back home (multiple trips to Chicago), etc., it's had a lot of weird electrical glitches. The powertrain has been solid but the electrical stuff just wears me out. I think we've gone t\hrough like 5 or 6 batteries in 10 years.

And for the record, the Volvo is certified which has a 5 year unlimited mile warranty which makes much more sense.

Volvos are known for leaky sunroofs. Apparently the drain near the passenger-side front tire gets clogged and rainwater can back up into the footwell, damaging some electronics too.

Daughter got a '20 or '21 T5 Inscription after her last car was totaled in the spring break hail storm last year. Hers is the last or next to last year they offered a straight gasser. Even the base model XC60 is a mild hybrid now. No complaints so far. She mostly just drives to work and campus, so not putting too many miles on it (maybe 10k in the 13 months she's had it). Only maintenance so far has been one oil change and, surprisingly, the auxiliary battery for the auto-restart. I ordered the battery for around $100 from FCP Euro, took it over to her, and she put it in herself while I coached.

Have an XC90. Comfy, smells just like friend's volvo station wagons I rode in as a kid. With 70,000 miles on it a few small oil leaks are appearing but no puddles. This is a 2020. FCP Euro is informative & seems to be fairly priced for parts & DIY tutorials.

I am thinking I read somewhere that Toyota owns or has some sort of hand in Volvo now.

They're owned by Geely, a Chinese car company that started making refrigerators.

We have a 2020 XC90 with 80k miles and have only had one small issue with an AC vavle or something that was fixed under warranty. Wife absolutely loves the car.

Wife's daily driver is a 2024 XC 60 plug in hybrid. We really like it and would buy again. We're at about 20k miles right now and no issues (knock on wood)

That is easy to check routinely. I have 4 on my Boxster. Have to check them once a year. Check them for dirt/leaves. Clear out and pour water down them to verify they are clear.
