Wife was in a hurry this morning when backing out of the garage in her 2018 Odyssey with the sliding door still open. The door hit the garage door framing, shattered the glass on the side of the car by the third row seats (but not the glass on the sliding door). I haven't seen it yet but she said the sliding door will no longer close and there is a dent on the side of the car.

Will get more details once I get home from work but for now the van is trapped in the garage since she can't close the door so maneuver out of her side of the garage which has a single car garage door.

Thanks! She called me while I was on the way to work and I took it in stride. I'm home now and having a look at it. It's going to be tough to either get the sliding door closed or remove it entirely so I can get the car out of the garage and to a body shop. Wish me luck.

Does the stuck door really stick out that much further than the side mirror? Even with it being a single car garage it seems wild that the stuck door adding 8-10" of width prevents you from backing it out.

I assume nobody was injured. Kinda scary with all that broken glass.

Did she not see the warning about the door being open before she started driving?

When I lived in Denver, my wife drove into the garage with my snowboard on the roof. At least she stopped after she heard the first binding break off.

I guess the only way to prevent this stuff is to buy our wives F-350s with a lift so they can't fit in the garage.

Then they'll just destroy a mirror by hitting a mailbox on the way home.
