Holy smokes! Check out this 1920 photo of the Texas Aggie marching band. The street behind the band is Military Walk. To the left of the ornate building in the center is Leggett Hall. Also, I notice that they are wearing leggings as opposed to boots. Such a great shot. So clear I believe I can see my own face in the tuba.

If you zoom in, you can see:
1) The bugle stand is on the upper left of the band
2) The century tree in its early 20s
3) There are a lot of blurred figures, so was this a time-lapse picture?
4) One figure appears to be riding a bike on the grass to the right of the flagpole.

Some of those men may have been alive in their 70s when CanyonAg77 was at A&M, and maybe living in their 80s when I was in school.

The band of 1920 was playing a new fight song (Battalion October 7, 1920)

I don't think time lapse, just that the shutter speeds were slow. So maybe 1/2 or full second, where today it would be at least 1/60 of a second or faster

n/m. I was mistaken.

The "ornate" building is Ross Hall.

Thank you. We really lost the plot architecturally along the way. Goodness gracious.

"Soviet Aggiestan" demolition and architecture destroyed some wonderful, but cramped and decrepit Victorian buildings. I think real Architects would call our current campus style "Brutalist." Maybe one of these days some of our Big Cigars will chip in some funds for re-doing the facades of Aggiestan, but I wouldn't count on it... They're too busy comparing their tiny d***s at box suites in losing sporting venues.

Kind of like Baku, Azerbaijan where thevold Soviet buildings have all been given new facades. No kidding. I've seen it with my own eyes.

Are those palm trees on the A&M campus?

I have always thought the WWI unis were some of the best the US has ever had.
God loves you so much He'll meet you where you are. He also loves you too much to allow to stay where you are.

Hmmm, Chigaroogrimm, Chigaroorimm. I didn't know the original spelling.

Doesn't match the "official" version

I was surprised that there used to be businesses, e.g. Casey's Confectionery, in the YMCA building.

A history of that building (physical as well as it's various uses) over the years would be interesting.

Makes sense. Had no clue it was ever used for that.

YMCA Building (1914) was designed by architect S.J. Fountain for the Young Men's Christian Association.
The building was financed by funds donated by students, former students, and the John D. Rockefeller Foundation. It served as the student center until 1950. Originally a two-story brick building with a basement, a third floor, and two semi-circular rooms was added in the 1920s. Four limestone Doric columns and an entablature mark the main floor. The rear of the building contained a chapel, which was lost to the construction of offices, as was the basement bowling alley and pool.

The lump that replaced Bizzell Hall being the latest example. Just butt-ugly, and is such a prominent location on central campus. What a shame.

This is being done in Hungary at this very moment. All around their government square...looks great.

When I was on the 12th Man Kick Off Team in 1986 we met Sam Houston Sanders '22. He was on the 1922 A&M football team that played in the 1922 Dixie Classic against Centre College.... and you know what happened at that game.

So yes, you could have met cadets that are in that photo.

I notice on that 1912 yell chart that Alla ka zoo co-ax co-ax seems and awful lot like Hullabaloo Caneck Caneck.then again that same yell has Hullabaloo in it twice also.

I have to wonder if they were phonetic for some noise that military students would recognize over a century ago. Not words or names, but sounds of something. Or maybe it is just funny sounding nonsense words or slang.

Some yells from the 1907-08 school year. We tried the Rah Jaw Jay Haw yell that KU does, but it faded out over time. You can also see that words to the future war hymn were already in use at A&M 10+ years prior to the writing of the song

And that Boola song sounds eerily familiar:
