Predict the mood on this board after the first game

As of now, Elko is killing it in recruiting, we hear good stuff from the A&M pre-season hype machine, and the pundits are all predicting great things. But haven't we seen this all before? Yes we have.

Usually we get a good reading on the season after the first game when QB issues show up, coaching issues show up, LB issues show up.

What do you think will be the mood on here after the first game on 8/30 against UTSA? A cupcake game means we are expected to steamroll them 77-0 or something like that.

If we blow out UTSA the sunshine pumpers will be out in force

If it is close in first half and cruise in second half there will be a lot of "we get better between game 1 and game 2"

If all the way close UTSA is the best 0-1 team ever and the UTSA coach is going to UF in 5 months

If we lose "we never should have fired Jimbo"!!!
Nothing says excellence like a Blue Diamond

Better question is what will be the mood after the ND game.

Better question, mood after first drive?

This board is bipolar after all.

Not really sure why anyone would be expecting anything over than a complete letdown. It is literally all we have ever done.

I think UTSA isn't the cupcake they used to be. We should still easily win, but probably by 2-3 TD's.

Imagine if UTSA scores first, the zoo will probably shut the door on the season.

Are we going to be "classy" (whatever the heck that is) and take our foot off the pedal when we are up 2 TDs? And then when they score again, scramble to save the game?

Is that what I said?

This thread is about a season opening game against a lower level opponent. We haven't been flawless in those but we generally win them with ease.

Reed still can't pass. Collin Klein's offense is going to straight to a 7-5 season.

We lose to UTSA en route to an 11-1 season-Similar to Notre Dame last year..because that's how college football go sometimes..

I am expecting a 25+ point win. If our winning margin is between 17-24 points, it will feel like a comfortable but unsatisfying win. If our winning margin is 16 points or fewer, it will feel like an uninspiring win. Our first true test is a road game at Notre Dame, and our first SEC game is a home game against Auburn after our first bye week. A road loss at Notre Dame is understandable, but a home loss to Auburn is inexcusable.

First drive? I can assess the entire season in the opening play. After an entire offseason of prep, reading all of us realists reminding you you suck. If you can't come out on the opening play of the season opener and either rip someone's head off on defense or be on fire on offense, we are screwed for the whole year.

If opening play is a half-A WR screen and we bobble it, the whole season is over before it even got going. If we miss a bunch of tackles or can't keep contain on defense, seasons over.

ESPECIALLY when the opener is a cupcake like tuMexico

Beep beep indeed

Pissed.

Because everyone will realize that once again they've been suckered into believing the reports out of camp - that so & so is throwing, running, catching the ball so much better than last year. That so & so is set to have a break out year, That the offensive/defensive lines look dominant. That the secondary is going to be a strength of the team and on and on and on.

Once again, just hype being fed to the masses to boost subscriptions and views.

No matter what happens in the game, half of this board will find the negative in it, not celebrate the win and be concerned for the rest of the season saying things like "if we don't improve on x, we aren't going to be better than 8-4" or if we don't improve on x, notre dame is going to kill us and Reed isn't the answer let's put in Zeno or O'Neil etc…

Conversely, no matter what happens in the game, the other half will be pumping up utsa, saying how notre dame is overrated a d we will beat them, and talking playoffs, Reed heisman etc…

No one will be happy.

It's the 80 - 20 Rule. 80% of the people on this board will not be happy after the game.

Top 5 Reasons why the 80% of fans will be pissed off:

1. Coach Elko (has Class) is not Coach Lane Kiffin, who will run the score up.
2, We will play a Very Vanilla game plan to not show anything to Notre Dame.
3. Just lots of running the ball and burning the clock. Boring for fans
4. None of the starting 22 players for O & D will be playing in the 4th quarter.
5. UTSA will score around 17 to 21 points total - mostly in the 3rd & 4th quarters.

We'll win by 17 and (falsely) claim we didn't want to show ND anything.
TAMUallen
9:21p, 8/2/25
Not a cupcake.

If we win by more than 28, it'll be exciting.

22-27, satisfied

17-21, cautiously optimistic

10-16, concerned

1-9, very nervous

Loss, abandon all hope. Fire Elko

There are only 2 important games on that first Saturday that I care about. The tu at Ohio State at 11am will set the tone for the entire first month of the season in the SEC. A tu victory means several weeks of their nonsense. But the much more likely runaway victory by Ohio would crush the tu bandwagon and make them realize their National title hopes are gone.
A bad outing with a couple of interceptions also ends the Arch coronation.

So if good things happen in the morning and we beat the San Antonio campus by 7 or 77 we will be very happy.

I would very much enjoy a big easy win at home but any win is enough, as long as the other tu is 0-1.

I think a lot of this will depend on how many points UTSA scores. Anybody paying attention has all eyes on our defense. If they hold the scrubs to single digits, I'll be in here pumping sunshine enough for everybody.
