They have talent but not tons of experience and no time playing together on either side on the line of scrimmage . I agree a preseason # 1 ranking is bs.

They going to end just like the Vols with Manning. Lots of hype but not winning anything.

Replacing Ewers with Arch.
Replacing Kelvin Banks, Jake Majors, Hayden Connner, & Cam Williams as starting OL.
Already lost Andre Cojoe - was competing for starting RT this year.
Replacing Matthew Golden, Isaiah Bond, Silas Bolden, Johntay Cook, Jayden Blue, and Gunnar Helm - that is 6 of their top 10 receivers.

Not even sure what they're replacing on defense.

But sure - preseason #1.

You can't be expected to know who was on their roster on offense or defense.

Why is Ohio state ranked so high? Look what happened to Michigan the year before. I think they lost a ton of players. It'll be interesting to see to see how far that loser falls

Ohio st, unlike Michigan, still has their coach and a roster full of blue chips all the way through

Every year people would say bama is going to take a step back because they lost so much and every year they'd come back and be a top 5 team

When your roster is that loaded you don't tend to fall back much after losing players

Probably because they were the only SEC team to make it to the semifinals last year. This combined with the belief that Arch Manning will be an improvement over Ewers. Which honestly seems plausible at this point.
like he was last year? Lol

I just don't see how texas as #1. Maybe top 5.

I am confident we will be much better and be in the CFP. The CFP is the only thing that matters. My prediction for the teams to make the CFP

texas, GA, LSU, A&M. If there is a 5th, I would put in S. Carolina. I have zero faith in Deboer.

It's contingent on Manning being a good QB. Most people believe he is/will be….and if he is, I can't really disagree. In 3 years they have amassed as much talent as Georgia and Alabama. If Manning is just slightly above average, they're a championship contender for sure, unfortunately.
Georgia has way more talent than tu

Hopefully 9th in SEC pisses our players off. It should. I honestly think we are much better than 9th.

Considering roster losses how are South Carolina. Ole Miss. Tennessee, and Florida ranked above us?

This is some great bulletin board material for Elko, especially since it is Coaches poll.

these are coaches polls. Coaches just hand that off to an assistant. I've never put much stock in the coaches poll.

Peyton actually played a ton in college. Arch sitting for two years is not a good sign in my opinion. Maybe that helps him but my thoughts are if he was actually great he would have played a lot more. He had his chance to take over last year and was not ready.

As Spurrier noted, why is a QB that could not replace a 7th round pick getting all this hype.

Hey at least we are ranked.

OU is not on the board, which is very surprising!

I believe they said, first time OU not ranked since 99 in preseason. Going to be funny when they beat the sips.

Lost to Georgia twice, but still outrank them. Pre-season polls are complete BS like usual.

They want that first game to be 1 Vs 2. That's it.

Players wanting to prove they are better than #21 is great. Players being pissed off about being #21 would just show they are ignorant. 8-5 last year doesn't "deserve" a high ranking to start this year. They SHOULD have to earn it.

I'm not worried about either of those games bc we will show up ready to play. We were not ready Vs Auburn last year bc everyone was looking ahead to the sips the next week.

iF that is true, it shows a major failure on our coaches part. Everyone knows you don't look ahead to big games. Coaches know to drill that into the heads of players. This is especially true when you have sucked on the road and have a road game.

It might make you feel better to say we lost just because the team looked ahead, but that likely isn't true and if it was, it is just as damning. We just haven't been a good road team. Elko needs to fix that.

I don't mind them at #1, especially because pre-season polls are a bunch of BS anyway. They have road games at tOSU and Georgia and it would not surprise me at all if they were both losses.

I also don't mind our ranking at 21, the team has a lot to prove after last year and hopefully the players take that as a kick in the butt to go out there and earn some respect from the pollsters.

It's also bull**** because a top 5 team dropping a couple games still keeps then in the playoff conversation. A team that starts in the 15-25 spot dropping a couple games is never heard from again.
LB12Diamond
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Any SEC teams that only loses two games will make a 12-team playoff no matter where their preseason ranking starts.
LB12Diamond
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Whatever, every SEC team typically try's to make that game an easy one for that exact same reason. Majority of SEC schools have been doing that one forever. It's just human nature to over hype your rivalry game, especially after not playing them for so many years.

Their o-line losses have to hurt.
Arch will be way better than Ewers.
Upgraded at TE.
Bond and Cook were big disappointments.
Blue will be missed for his HR speed.
People are only now seeing how good Golden was, he will be missed.
Baker probably starts over Cojoe, but now depth is shaky.

Summary they will be fine at qb and wr, but o-line is a big issue.

On defense they lost the Thorpe winner in the backfield. Lost some good DTs, but spent all their portal focus on DT. I expect a similar defense as before. Not better, not worse.

I don't see OU recovering and possibly going the way of Nebraska. With Stoops and his success pre-playofffs, they had their pick of top Texas talent.

They really should have known better than to follow sip here. They will never be the big cheese they were.

Going down 21-0 right off the bat kind of points to not being ready or focused. Could be just bad luck and the way the ball bounces sometimes. They did fight back and force OT, and if Marcel doesn't drop that 1st snap of the last possession in regulation and we get 1 more 1st down, they get the W.

Yep. We had some impressive stretches last season and then finished with some inconsistent outings. If you're ranked at all in preseason and win games early in the SEC, you'll rocket up the chart.

In the meantime, use this as bulletin board material

I know we do what we do but objectively we have a top 5 talent level and even with doubt, a top 10 team.

Temper that and rank us with caution in the 11-15 area. 21 is a joke.

I wish we weren't ranked at all. Period.
We always seem to play better in every sport when nobody ranks us.
Whenever we are ranked..especially ranked high we blow it...except Track &Field and Women's Tennis.
Besides..these preseason polls don't mean squat and everyone knows it.
And just to add..the OP is a sip who posted this just to get you guys all biotching about it.
This can only be a bad thing for the sips because of their massive overhyped expectations.
For A&M..rankings have the opposite correlation to our performance historically.
The only ranking that counts is the one at the end of the season.
Preseason polls are just speculation and self-serving media hype for ratings or clicks.

Considering TU would have beaten us at least 24-0 without a gift from Ewers, I get why the pollsters think they're even better this year.
