Key notes from Olin’s thoughts on Lee
- Will Lee III, let’s make a blanket statement, and say he's one of the best, if not, the best cornerbacks in the SEC. He was All-SEC last year. I remember, of course, his pick six against Texas and remember him creating a pick six for Bryce Anderson against Florida. He got his hand in there to break up a pass and deflected, and Anderson picked it up for a touchdown.
- He had 10 passes broken up last year. He created a forced fumble against South Carolina and played as a really strong cornerback all year. They didn't have anyone else as good on the other side, and it's difficult because he's an NFL player right there.
- He got away with one in Missouri. The chatter with the blanket thing... Somebody within the Missouri organization drew attention to “The Blanket” and how good he was. If you're a Missouri fan and saw that you feel you got hosed, yes. The fact is that Lee took at least for his part in it, took guys like Luther Burden III and Theo Wease Jr., and made it a role.
- I don't want to throw at Lee. I may have to, but if there's a comfort, you know, I may be forced to.
- I said you can feel as an A&M fan, you feel comfortable with Lee over there, but uncomfortable over there. If someone else raises their game to where you have to face him, then that person becomes a comforter or quilt. Maybe a sock?
- I think I like the idea of another team throwing in his direction because he may return for it a touchdown or break it up for someone else. Or just knock it down. In the rare event, he's a good tackler. I welcome and encourage opposing quarterbacks to throw at him.
- If the pass rush is consistent, getting to the quarterback, then yes, the secondary will be better. That's my best friend. Then you see more interceptions because you have a quarterback under duress.
- I don't know if I'm giving you the answer, but I know we're talking about Lee right now, he's All-SEC, and he's an All-American candidate. He's one of your best players. He's number three for us. If your transfer portal guys like Dezz Ricks and Julio Humphrey, if they perform near the level Lee did, then there are a lot of problems solved.
