Why in the hell is the sign language lady so close to the yell leaders during yell? I get it that people with hearing imparements want to enjoy the yell practice. But, why can't they put her down around the 10 yard line and , like the old days, place a bubble around her? Just so typical Aggie to do ....you know what.....the hell with it. I give up. Our school, decision making, traditions are so wacked out. The yell practice from what I watched on YouTube was hideous. Just get rid of it..... embarrassing and cringe.......we brought it back in 94..... brought it! It sucks because I get made fun of now because of the embarrassment of new army, sign language ladies, stupid acting yell leaders. U know what! Doesn't matter. 94 brought wasted yell leaders, red ass Corp, non stop push ups, fighting Texas Aggie band, red ass stories,

I must be getting old. Tonight was the first yell practice that I was thinking, "What the hell is this?"

The jokes weren't ironic, self-deprecating and tongue-in-cheek like they used to be. They used to be a bit where the yell leaders didn't take it too seriously.

Tonight they were straight up trash talk and unnecessary, especially given the opponent. It was embarrassing.

Surely it wasn't as embarrassing as a "grown man" using the word cringe.

It's definitely not the way it used to be, or should be. But I still miss Johnny Carson, too!

Tonight was my first YP since I was in school 20 years ago. I didn't think it was that bad. But the yell leaders having to take a break every 5 or so push ups was a little embarrassing.

I think people forget it's supposed to be cheesy and bad jokes. I did like how the students get real fake excited when they say I've got a story for you. That actually made me laugh.

All I know is both my kids enjoyed their first yell practice, and that's all that matters. My opinion might be a little skewed due to that

Sign language interpreter?

Yell practice used to be a bunch of rowdy college students "sneaking" into a barely lit stadium, most of them at least half-drunk, having a good time. Bonfire torches, band plays, do some yells, hear stupid jokes, kiss your gal (or a gal), might even see a little fight.

Now it's a full on, made for TV, multimedia production. Like most things they touch, they have almost ruined it.

They need more bevel at yell practice. Maybe they wouldn't need the hand talker then either.

Midnight yell has always been cringey, but it's not meant to be for the masses, and it was never supposed to be "cool". It's for Aggies to have a good time and bond over shared traditions and a football game in college station.

But now that everyone has a camera and runs to post it to the internet, we are forced to listen to everyone's outside opinion about how dorky it is, and some Aggies are allowing themselves to be embarrassed by it. Again, was never supposed to be cool, and we aren't trying to be just like every other university which annoys people

The first task in yell leader tryouts - complete 50 push-ups in a minute.

Yell was a lot of fun in the late 60's and early 70's. even though we didn't win that often It was fun. The Yell Leaders now are a bit over the top and really more like 14 year old boys.

I'm guessing that the cadets that started yell practice as early as 1913 and later moved to "midnight" yell practice in 1931 thought they were pretty "cool" - for that time. Of course they wouldn't have called it cool, they would have said swell or keen or aces - or probably good bull.

Most of us are embarrassed by it because it is ****ing embarrassing.

It wasn't nearly this bad 20 years ago. A certain level of perception matters. It isn't that hard to place controls to get a better result.

Almost 50 years out now, and the only constant is change.

Fall of '73 was when women stopped wearing dresses w/ hose and heels to games. We still had the "every game is homecoming" mums for sale everywhere. Yes, mums at Aggie games. Gotta remember that for a long time women were guests more than students. Saw yell leaders from the 50's (they were OLD to me in 73 or 74) and they moved totally differently.

Of course for all of us, the right way is the way is was done when we were on campus.

So just curious, do you think that people in wheel chairs are also a hindrance or a distraction? Does it piss you off when their parking spots are better than yours? Or do you just hate deaf people?

Fun fact. ADA is federal law, not a suggestion. I also second that complaining about the ASL interpreter is a weird rant.

Just spitballing here.

Maybe, since camera's aren't going away and we now have a national audience, we could tailor Midnight Yell to be something that is not so cringey and embarrassing. Because it doesn't work for the intended purpose anymore.

I've been watching Lee Corso's final show and the story behind the mascot head pick, it was an idea to try something different. Does anyone actually enjoy Midnight Yell anymore? College Gameday made the CHANGE and history was made. There is an opportunity here. We, apparently, have a national audience watching to see Aggies be embarrassing and goofy, and not in a good way. But the way our administration runs the sports programs, I won't hold my breath.

To each their own, but I have personally never cared for yell practice. I know, I know blasphemy, but even as a student it wasn't one of my favorite things. I was always at the football games, but I only went to a relatively small amount of yell practices during my time at A&M.

I've occasionally gone to some of the away game ones over the last 20 years or so and they seem to be a bit better, but it is cringey.

I didn't watch last night but again it's just not my thing.

Interesting about the sign language interpreter.

Aside from the weird "I hate deaf people" rant, it's worth pointing out that the OP is a guy in his mid-50s talking about what a badass he was 30 years ago. At attending pep rallies.
