Probably because when he's being interviewed he has an audience in mind (other than the interviewer) he wants to placate. "The truth about anything" doesn't sound very rewarding or circumspect.

It's been this way since the very first interview he ever gave at A&M. "Yeah you know I'm really just becoming more of a homebody, staying in and watching film with my teammates"…..followed by a new scandal over rolling dollar bills to snort cocaine in a bar bathroom and floating around drunk on a blow-up swan in the middle of a club.
