Maybe Auburn stops a run on 3rd and 1. You are in field goal range. Kick the field goal. Auburn didn't look like they were going to get two first downs, much less two touchdowns.

If you don't get it, you could try again on 4th down. I wouldn't try it, but it's okay. You might make it and kill off the game. Even if you don't convert, Auburn has to go 80 yards to score.

Everybody defending that play call is wrong. I guarantee in film, every coach is going to say "what were we thinking? Just run it, Auburn can't stop it". They certainly aren't going to trot out that nonsense in similar situation.

Exactly. Yes, we won the game. Yes, it's great to be 4-0. But that play call is absolutely indefensible, and the fact our OC made that call is concerning. He did the same thing last year….his MO has been braindead situational playcalling when it really matters.

Playing to win? Then why run up the middle on 3rd and 3 the next series or later run on 3rd and 11? That was playing not to lose - can't have it both ways - calling that pass play on 3rd and 1 when they hadn't stopped us all game and moss was averaging 7 yds a carry was overthinking and irresponsible - TERRIBLE call by Klein - can't believe all the defenders on here.

having been unable to watch today, who gaf what it looked like. we won. that's all i care about.

One of the worst formation and play calls I've ever seen

The guys on here complaining about that play call are the same kind of people who complained about Pete Carroll's call to throw the ball from the 1 after it was intercepted to end the Super Bowl years ago. You're just playing the result. It's easy to complain about something that didn't work, but the fact that it didn't work doesn't make it a bad play. Making a high percentage throw when the defense thinks you're running it usually works out better than running it when they know you're running it.

It was tipped and intercepted because of randomness, probability turned against us, but it was a reasonable play call.
