Just the idea that a team is expected to fear us shows the perception of our program is already starting to change.

Honestly, the only two programs that should fear us since we joined the SEC are Arkansas and South Carolina, though South Carolina has done better recently on that front.

Rivers Hughey is not wrong about how we are 7-6 against Mississippi State, but we are 4-2 in home games against Mississippi State with all 4 wins were by 10+ points. We have won 2 consecutive games against Mississippi State by 10+ points each.

2013: 51-41 win
2015: 30-17 win
2017: 35-14 loss
2019: 49-30 win
2021: 26-22 loss
2023: 51-10 win

Hopefully, we dominate Mississippi State from start to finish to get to 5-0 (2-0 SEC). This would also be the first time we have won 3 consecutive games against Mississippi State.

Rivers Hughey probably thinks we are bound to lose them to Saturday because we have never won more than 2 consecutive games against Mississippi State. That's the only historical trend I can see in her favor. But Mississippi State team has lost 13 consecutive SEC games and 16 of their last 17 SEC games. Also, this is the first time they are playing a road game against a Power 4 team this season, and a road game at night is even tougher than a road game during the day.

MSU was ranked No. 1 on Oct 28, 2014 falling to No. 4 after losing to Bama on Nov 15, 2024.

so, No they haven't spent more time at No.1 since 2015 than A&M.

Not going to lie, I don't understand anyone using AP rankings as smacktalk when it isn't the final poll. I say this as someone who has seen us ranked in a lot of seasons that we end up unranked.

And Mississippi State has finished in the top 10 ONCE in all of history (#9) in 1940. That means even with as bad as we've been the last couple decades, we have finished higher than they EVER have twice since 2012.

The year they hit number one they dropped 3 of their last 4 games to finish the season #11.

Well A&M won a national championship in 1939 and MS State has never won one so if I was them, I'd be terrified.

I remember when we joined the SEC that Hogville and the Arkansas media was really confident that the Razorbacks would be A&M's SEC football daddy. Because of the historical W-L record between the two schools favoring Arkansas. And look how that turned out….

What is Elko's record as A&M's HC versus Miss State's Lebby? Let me see here….ah….1-0. What is Lebby's SEC record asHC at Miss State? Let me see here….ah….0-9. Miss State does look better than last year and almost certainly WILL get Lebby's first SEC win a some point this season…but reciting the overall Miss State versus A&M results the past 13 years is going to have nothing to do with Saturday's outcome.

I don't understand the logic of using historical (ie. previous years) data to predict future performance in college football. Should Okie State be feared because of the impressive teams Mike Gundy had built? Should Vandy be dismissed because of their historical futility?
