It will take at least two back to back seasons of 10+ wins for me to no longer have "BAS"

In other words, I'll always have BAS

We could win the national championship and I would still have BAS the very next year.

That would get rid of mine...but it will never happen.

We have seen this play out before. Aggie optimism peaking, top 5-10 ranking. Looking ahead at the schedule wondering "what if?" only to crash down to earth in November.

The difference this year is we can score points and be explosive. It's a different team build than we've seen really since 2018. It may ultimately yield the same result, but we at least have a chance. We aren't doing the same thing over and over.

It sure beats knowing we're punting if we get a false start on first down.

So it looks like we have a lot of BASSERS on this thread, naturally. I'm curious - when you talk football with non-Aggies at work or at the hair salon or waiting for your OB GYN exam, do you do this kicked, beat-down dog routine about how you expect to lose and refuse to believe your team is any good? If you run into, say, a Longhorn or a Roll Tide, do you just drop your trousers and bend over immediately, or do you just hope football just doesn't even come up?

I get what Elko is trying to do and appreciate it. Heck, he's even trying to change the culture of the reporters in the Auburn post game interview.

What he doesn't understand is that, at least for the last 30 some odd years, we have been conditioned to wait for the other shoe to drop. The Aggies have the fan support, the facilities, the money, and anything else a winning program needs but has come up short for years.

I do think we have the right coach for the first time in a long time but until we see results, the jaded ones like myself will keep a wary eye on the program. We support the team and celebrate wins but temper expectations.

I will say that we should all keep a reasonable objective in mind and understand these are still kids playing a sport as opposed to a group that practices and trains 24/365. They will never be perfect and neither will any of us.

It's not bas, it's just reality

That's just wrong. We would have lost to both ND and Auburn games over the last 10 years. This year COULD be different and to ignore that isn't BAS. It's just being pathetic.

My first Aggie game to see in person was tu in Austin in 1974. First time I heard the "poor aggies" chant. I wasn't an Aggie fan yet but I knew right then I would never, ever be a tu fan.

First game at Kyle, two years later as a freshman and still fresh from fish camp, I stood in the NW corner of the horseshoe on about the third row and watched Big George Woodward sweep around the left side and knock over defenders like they were bowling pins. We were so close to the field you could hear Woodard snorting as he ran around the end. That is the day I became a lifelong a FTA football fan.

I have watched hundreds of games. I have seen embarrassing losses and unbelievable wins.

This year's team is not the best Aggie team that I have ever seen....yet. You are wrong to call PB's pathetic because they realize this years team has areas that need work and are not sold yet on how far this team can go.

I think PB's may be better fans, because we don't wear the rose colored glasses but will support the team until we no longer can.

BAS will not be permanently retired until we win a title for most people. Even then, some will insist on clinging to it.

For now though, until we win a title, I think having BAS is understandable. Just too many times of getting burned or falling short.

Whenever the subject of Aggie football comes up in my conversations, which are never at the "trans" locations you appear to frequent, I simply reply that based on 85 years of experiencing mediocrity, I don't expect year 86 of Aggie football to be any different than the previous 85 years.......

Thanks. Just so you know, when you talk to a real Longhorn and do your "woe is us" routine…we laugh at you because it's so sad. This board is mostly just a giant **** joke. I tried to help. I tried to make you realize how pitiful it is to be 4-0 and constantly whine about how you'll soon be 6-6. We have trained you well - you're beyond hope.

I would like to argue that BAS is NOT fan support.
It is the collective holding of the breath waiting and hoping for us to fail that is detrimental to the team. The "curse" that you all put on us over and over that we will fail is exactly why we keep doing it.
Its a self-sabotaging, self-fulfilling prophecy.

We have started 4-0 for the first time since 2016, but we have lost 4 consecutive November SEC games, dating back to a 42-30 loss at LSU on 11/25/2023. Also, we have lost 7 consecutive November or later road games dating back to a 29-19 loss at Ole Miss on 11/13/2021. If we have another inexplicable late season loss as a favorite, Missouri is where it happens.

11/13/2021: 29-19 loss at 10-3 (6-2 SEC) Ole Miss
11/27/2021: 27-24 loss at 6-7 (3-5 SEC) LSU
11/12/2022: 13-10 loss at 5-7 (2-6 SEC) Auburn
11/4/2023: 38-35 loss at 11-2 (6-2 SEC) Ole Miss
11/25/2023: 42-30 loss at 10-3 (6-2 SEC) LSU
11/2/2024: 44-20 loss at 9-4 (5-3 SEC) South Carolina
11/23/2024: 43-41 4-OT loss at 5-7 (2-6 SEC) Auburn

A win over Missouri or Texas would be our first November/December road win in 5 years, but losses to both Missouri and Texas would extend our November road losing streak to 9 games and stretch into 2026. Hopefully, we win at least 2 of 3 November games against Missouri (away), South Carolina (home), and Texas (away).

Unlike some on this board, I actually went to TAM and proudly have my degree from our school as do you….and likewise, proud to be a former student. So we are both former students and always will be and we both have part of that school always with us.
This makes us different from merely being a "fan". I am of the same era as you. I lived and was going to TAM during the Bellard years. As you, I have seen lots of games…some good, some bad. Regardless of the past or present, I will always support our team and the maroon and white because that's what our tradition says we should do. I'm proud of TAM for its traditions and what our school has always stood for and that includes our football team. All us former students and current students have that unique bond that is quite different than being a "fan". All we can do is honor that bond and embrace it best we can.
As our traditions get eroded one by one, the one that I hope never dies is the support of our team and school.
