Yes the SWC and early stages of the big 12 were a slum back then. More than happy to see Kyle field lit up, with an overflow crowd on saturdays @ 6:30PM

He's a Touchdown!
I miss listening to Aggie football in the 90s and early 2000s on the radio. Never knew who had the ball or scored the touchdown, but by God Dave South made it exciting.
Who caught the ball?? Who caught the ball??? Was that a catch??
First down, we're at the what is that?? The forty?
You tell me Dave, I'm listening to you while driving to work.

I remember taking soccer for my PE credit and we actually played on the astroturf on Kyle Field. Totally insane to think about now.

Your last bullet item is pretty much revisionist history

I ran sprints on the track at Kyle Field for one of my PE credits. But, Kyle Field was frequently open to students, even at night. My roommate would practice kicking field goals while I held the ball, and there would be lots of other students out there doing their thing. We'd just stroll in and out through the Horseshoe.
I did get kicked out of a football practice; all the gates were open, so I walked in with a friend and we sat down to watch the team. One of the athletic staff walked up into the stands and told us we had to leave, even though everything was unlocked and wide open and there were no signs.
Ah, memory lane.

Caught!! Dropped!!
Uh, that'd be a fumble, Dave.

Remember when you had to go to a bar to watch the game because it was only on pay-per-view?
