With all of the recent leaks, it seems like UNC is looking hard for a way out. Belichick may go down as the worst hire in college football history if so.
A&M related because we might pick up a good player in the smoking rubble that Bill leaves behind.

Also UNC trying to restructure buyout over the past few days.
Update** He was just given the ole 'vote of confidence' by the AD

Funniest thing about all of this is that he doesnt give a F about being the UNC coach but he's also too stubborn to say "screw this, I'm out".

Belichick to UNC will go down in history as equivalent to Urban Meyer to the Jaguars. Proof that a big name doesn't guarantee success.

I still think Herm Edwards as the CEO coach at Arizona State was the most doomed from the jump hire I ever saw. He wasn't even that great of an NFL coach, out of it for years, and a middling program took a flyer on a hire.

Belichick may be a *****, and this has been a failed experiment, and it's looking more and more like all of his success was because of Brady, not him. But strictly speaking from a resume, Belichick had the bonafides to coach anywhere anytime, he's a legendary NFL coach. And a basketball school with more money than sense took a shot. Can't knock the, for trying. It had the ingredients for success. Edwards at ASU was a disaster from the moment they announced it.

I compared it to Clyde Drexler coaching UH men's basketball. It seemed like a good idea until the season started.

Im not sold on him being one of the best ever. He's a big name sure and has lots of rings.....

Take away the GOAT and he is pretty pedestrian. Without Brady (Cleveland years + 2020-2024 Patriots), Belichick's record is 85-104, including 1 playoff appearance.

His coaching tree, perhaps one of the better ways to measure how good he was, hasn't really performed all that well either.

Its not terribly surprising to see him fall on his face-

College ball =/= pro ball
Tom Brady ain't walking through that door
He's there for a paycheck or because he couldn't find employment in the NFL
His young girlfriend wanted some friends her age

I remember hearing that he didn't even attend practices or meetings, he just showed up at gametime and sat on the courtside. Another bizarre experiment.

It seems like the whole thing was a marketing/pr stunt organized by an ambitious girlfriend. All the stars that showed up for the first game are now scarce and everyone has egg on their faces. It's so embarrassing I can't even watch.

It is just further proof that coaching in the two levels are vastly different. Making the jump from College to the NFL rarely works (RE: Nick Saban, Matt Rhule) and it is looking like NFL to College doesn't work well.

I don't think they'll get rid of him in one season. It will take a few.
I've read some articles on this and s few things stood out. First is that there were a ton of folks interfering with the coach search. The AD had it narrowed down to 1-2 people and was making offers. I believe he even had one person on the line already. Then the president stepped in and so did some board members and they brought belicheck to the picture. They took over and railroaded the whole deal over the AD.

There will be some sorta "health" related reason. It will be similar to the Florida situation years ago with Urban Meyer

Going on a mini vacation with his "girlfriend" during the bye week was a pretty bad look given the season to date. If I was a hard core UNC football fan (are there any?) I would want him fired just for that.

He is also on a book tour, his coaching staff is reportedly already shopping for consulting jobs with teams projected to be in playoffs.

Bill Belichick's tenure at North Carolina has been a gigantic disaster. North Carolina has been outscored by TCU, UCF, and Clemson by a combined score of 120-33 in their 3 games against Power 4 opponents, and 2 of those 3 humiliating 25+ point losses were at home.

Without the Tom Brady as his starting quarterback, Bill Belichick's regular season record is 84-99.

Breakdown of Belichick's Regular Season Record Without Brady:
  • Cleveland Browns (1991-1995): 36-44 with one playoff appearance in 1994
  • New England Patriots (2000): 5-11
  • New England Patriots (2008): 11-5 (when Matt Cassell played due to Brady's ACL injury on the second drive of their season opener)
  • New England Patriots (2016): 3-1 (when Brady was suspended)
  • New England Patriots (Post-Brady, 2020-2023): 29-38, one playoff appearance in 2021

Cracks me up that the media still calls him one of the greatest coaches of all time.

As pointed out above, without Brady he's a total loser. THE most overrated HC of all time and it's not really even close.
Coupled with his a-hole attitude and superiority complex, he's also possibly the most unlikable HC of all time too.

I'm loving watching the train wreck.

I've said he is an average at best HC. Great DC, but his run was 85% Brady
