Each Monday during the 2025 Texas A&M football season, we’ll identify a first or second-year Aggie player who delivered an exceptional performance over the weekend and earned the distinction of being the week’s “Overnight Sensation.”

A little extra motivation never hurt.

Ashton Bethel-Roman’s breakout performance helped Texas A&M secure its seventh straight win of the season, recording four catches for 83 yards and a touchdown in the Aggies’ 45-42 victory over Arkansas.

For Bethel-Roman, it was the perfect opponent to flex on.

During his recruiting process, Bethel-Roman was a long-time Arkansas commit and even signed with the Razorbacks after a late official visit to College Station.

After WR coach Kenny Guiton was let go by now-fired Sam Pittman, Bethel-Roman got his way out of his Letter of Intent and ultimately chose the Aggies on Signing Day in February.

Hog fans felt the sting of the flip in 2024, but it somehow managed to hurt more in 2025.

They watched the redshirt freshman have a career-high night on their own turf.

In a year where Mario Craver and KC Concepcion have received the majority of the praise out wide — and deservedly so — Bethel-Roman announced his arrival, proving A&M’s receiver room runs deeper than most realize.

“That's Coach (Holmon) Wiggins’ philosophy: Attacking the ball. We’re in the SEC, so we’ve got to be big, make big-time plays at receiver, contested catches.”

The Marcel Reed to Bethel-Roman connection opened up A&M’s scoring, capping off a 75-yard drive with a beautiful ball to the wideout for his second career touchdown.

“You know, all week they were playing inside leverage,” Bethel-Roman said. “Me and Marcel were just connecting all week. So, I just took what I did from practice and applied it to the game, and it worked out.”

Texas A&M went on to score in seven of its nine offensive drives. Two big gains in the second and fourth frames from the Missouri City native assisted in a fiery, offensive night for the Maroon & White.

An 18-yard snag was the first of a 14-play scoring drive for the Aggies, where they took a 21-6 lead.

What may have been Reed’s best throw of the season came in the final quarter, perfectly hitting Bethel-Roman in the chest plate for a gain of 37, setting up a touchdown four plays later.

“That's Coach (Holmon) Wiggins’ philosophy: Attacking the ball,” Bethel-Roman said. “We’re in the SEC, so we’ve got to be big, make big-time plays at receiver, contested catches. We’re in the SEC. So that's all that was, just again applying what I learned from practice, using it in the game. Attacking the ball.”

With ties to a school, Bethel-Roman tends to bode well.

That’s good news for the 12th Man as the Aggies travel to LSU on Saturday.

His father, Mark, was a second-rounder in the 2000 NFL Draft out of LSU. His mother ran track for the Tigers as well.

With family ties to the Louisiana school, he could feel a little extra motivation in this one, too.
