I will believe this until proven otherwise.

The only other plausible is that a BMA told the Administration that the donos would stop if they hired stoops

But honestly what was the logic? The guy hasn't done anything ever and we decide we think he's the guy? He's 60! Old guy who hasn't done anything to inspire 20 year olds! Makes sense

Rumor has it (Finebaum show I think had a segment on it), 1 booster saw him beat Louisville and said that's the guy, along with influence from Sexton / Bjork. All 3 flew out to his house and offered the him the job before anything was presented internally tot BOR. Lucci I think dropped the news without specially saying it was happening and the rest is history….

He had a good run at UK with a couple 10-3 years in 18 and 23. Their last and only 10+ win seasons before that? 1977 1950.

There was hope for Stoops at Kentucky since he was getting them in rankings the first time since 2007, once in the 80s, a few times in the 70s and the 50s/60s.

Sure, he did well at times with a bad team but he would have been a terrible pick for A&M

His OC kept him afloat…. And they kept telling him he was the HC in waiting and Mark Stoops never left until they re-upped him, and the OC left for the NFL.

The funny thing is UK could upgrade and get Somrall most likely but they'll ride with Stoops because of basketball lol

Theyre locked in for 38 million dollars. Hoops runs it all for big blue. I think theyre struggling massively with NIL due to those dollars just not being there for football and basketball hasn't been elite level for almost a decade depending on how you look at it

Those two 10-3 finishes were in 2018 and 2021. Kentucky finished 7-6 in 2023.

I am glad we avoided the disaster of hiring Mark Stoops. He led Kentucky to 8 consecutive bowl appearances from 2016 to 2023, including 10-3 (5-3 SEC) finishes in 2018 and 2021, but he has lost 19 of his last 22 games against Power 4 teams and 17 of his last 19 SEC games dating back to a 51-13 road loss at Georgia on 10/7/2023, and 12 of those 19 losses were by 10+ points each.

That was such an exciting night/week of TexAgs. By the time I drove back from the clanga game it had spilled out Jimbo was gone. Then the insanity that ensued over the Stoops hiring later on. I've never hit refresh on my phone so many times outside of tracking play by play on ESPN when I can't watch a game. It was truly an epic time for TexAgs.

If that story is true....that booster is a complete MORAN! How in the world can a person with FU money be that stupid??!!?? But, I guess moran money is still money.

The news made me physically ill and realize that there was no plan after firing Jimbo. You fire someone and have to pay them $75M but you got no plan? You are an idiot.

The Mark Stoops scare was Bjork playing the long game. He didn't like how much money he was being given to hire a head coach so he showed them just who he could get with the money offered. Once everyone found out it was Stoops, they raised hell and gave him more money to get the guy he wanted.

I don't know if the story is true, but it's so on brand for our idiot boosters that it seems highly plausible.

This is what happens when you give a fool who is completely incompetent about football a little money and a satellite dish.

I bet Sexton loves dealing with our boosters. He knows an imbecile when he sees one from a mile away.

It wasn't just one thread that night, it was the volume of angry, rabid threads. If you looked away for a few minutes, the thread you were just reading was already on page two. I understand Amazon ran out of pitchforks and torches. Game day threads were a tea party compared to that night.

People have really started write true fiction about what happened. Stoops may or may not have been offered the job, but in these situations it is never official until the bor have blessed the offer. Just like when we offered the head of journalism person the job.
There was some opposition to Stoops from people in the bor.
Our AD was trying to find a coach that was doing well and had a lot of experience. Elko was light on experience.

As it turned out the correct descion was made but there is always questions with every hire.

With so many new coaches to be hired this year, I predict more than half will be bad choices and will be fired within 3 to 5 years.

I missed the whole thing. Checked Texags a couple days before Thanksgiving, and with us having lost to LSU didn't have much appetite for it after that. Came back on Sunday evening to the news that Elko had been inked. The whole Stoops imbroglio came and went in that span and I found out about it days later.

The fact that a BMA can affect a coaching hire on such superficial results is concerning.

"Hey that team beat a top ten team. That should be our next coach. Give him a 10 year contract ".

It's not new around here. Sumlin made the short list and ultimately HC because a member of the BOR was his running buddy in Houston. Bum Bright was behind the Jackie Sherrill hire. Sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn't.
