11/25/23 will be a date we remember for a long time. The day Texags helped the Aggies avert complete disaster

Is this thread available still?

It was every thread on the board for a period of hours. Here is a sampling.

The Mark Stoops scare was Bjork playing the long game. He didn't like how much money he was being given to hire a head coach so he showed them just who he could get with the money offered. Once everyone found out it was Stoops, they raised hell and gave him more money to get the guy he wanted.

Masterclass by Bjork

LOL. The problem with this fantasy is that Mark Stoops makes 2 million dollars more annually than Mike Elko does. We were going to have to pay Stoops more than Jimbo was making to give him a pay raise over his salary at Kentucky and Elko was cheaper.

i was on texas ags that night late when the news broke. total texas ags meltdown, it wws absolutely legendary. this definitely had something to do with how this played out. hell the whole board even went as far as giving the replacement elko as the obvious choice.

texas ags saved texas aggie football and one day tbis may actually become part of aggie lore if elko takes us to unseen heights. it's a very aggie story.

The fact that a BMA can affect a coaching hire on such superficial results is concerning.

"Hey that team beat a top ten team. That should be our next coach. Give him a 10 year contract ".

It's not new around here. Sumlin made the short list and ultimately HC because a member of the BOR was his running buddy in Houston. Bum Bright was behind the Jackie Sherrill hire. Sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn't.

We had Bo Schembechler for a minute. He changed his mind when he got back to Michigan.

The only conspiracy theory possible for floating somebody like Stoops would be to make someone else seem palatable by comparison, like if say you wanted to hire Lane Kiffin, but boosters didnt like him, so then you're like, oh well besides that Stoops is the best we can do....and then wait for them to go , Ok fine, Kiffin.

But I doubt Elko needed some scheme like that. IMO, we obviously actually had some idiot who thought it was a genius move to pay like $10 million a year to hire Mark Stoops who would dominate the SEC because if he can go 7-5 at Kentucky then the sky is the limit!

It was reported at the time that Elko turned down the first offer.

BMAs and the powers that be had Stoops lined up!
TexAgs and 12th Man be damned.

An 11th hour phone call found the right ears of the right Ag. That call served as a warning NOT to hire stoops because of the skeletons in his closet!

Can't say more because for some reason, the mods don't like comments about certain habits of coaches. Maybe it will shake out sometime in the future who made the call!

It's hard to project what Stoops would've done with the resources and the change in scenery. I certainly wasn't very excited about Stoops when it looked like he was going to be the hire, and Elko has certainly worked out well thus far, but I wouldn't take the fact that Kentucky has run out of gas as proof affirmative that he wouldn't have worked out here.

On the other hand- even more of an outrage/protest was when we made the insane decision to reject the SEC and accept Bebbe/Big12 proposal to remain in the B12.

I STILL cant wrap my head around the Regents' ridiculous decision there when the entire fan base was in favor of moving.
