I've known who he is of course but not what he looks like. I've been wondering who the electric spark coach is also without realizing it is him. Impressive uplifting coach.

I thought this post was going to be about Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Clay Taylor '88, who from 2001-2020 was the peace officer assigned to protect the Texas A&M head coaches at football games. In 2020 Clay retired from DPS after serving 38 years in law enforcement to become the Texas DPS Officers Association Executive Director. Clay, aka "Trooper Taylor," is good people, just like Coach Trooper Taylor.

Wasn't there some complaints about him when he was hired? I might be thinking of someone else. Of course, I am pretty sure there were complaints about every hire.

When I was a kid at Crawford and he was an assistant at Baylor, and he came to talk to us. I just remember he told us not to do drugs.

He was assistant head coach for Elko at Duke, and took over interim head coach after Elko left. Clearly Elko has mad respect and confidence in Troop

I met Troop at a gas station in Orange, Texas after he was hired. He was driving in from North Carolina and weals letting his two huskies out for a break. He saw my Aggie gear while we were pumping gas and introduced himself to me. He told me he was the running backs coach and that he was excited to be with A&M. He told me the he only teaches touchdowns and not fumbles, so if they fumble he didn't teach that.

I remember Mr. Hodel well, and Martha! Small world! My grandpa had the auto repair shop across the road from Amsler's. Mr. Hodel was/is a Mount Rushmore type figure in Crawford lore.

I played HS football in the late '80s against Trooper and the Cuero Gobblers. They kicked the living crap out of us time after time. Despite those beatings, I'm glad to see him doing well for our Ags.

Trooper is an awesome coach but the best hire, in my opinion, is Wiggins. Ags have always been limited at the receiver position. Wiggins has completely changed the ball game and allowed the offense to open up.

Great point and definitely. I was thinking of position coaches but Moffitt is definitely the best hire.
