Who do we play last again?

Yes, but I wouldn't typically call our rival -- especially when they have a decent record and are playing at home -- a cupcake.

They are not really a cupcake... Hilarious. (I think people were confused for good reason.)

We didn't. The conference did. We've had these cupcake games in November for years. That's why I'm glad the nine SEC games will hopefully eliminate this. It's fine to have one or two in the beginning part of the year, but these are just dumb. But every school has one. Almost played the citadel last week.

And I wouldn't call anyone who pays for calls and throws garbage to get their way a "rival".

That's right we don't care about them despite the multiple threads about them weekly (and our fight song, etc.).

I remember feeling better about a so-so season if we beat them. I didn't get the same feeling about beating LSU.

I hate how the SEC schedules November cupcake games. I understand that the SEC starts conference games in week 2 instead of waiting until week 5, but that often means a cupcake opponent is the final home game for us and other SEC schools. For example, we played Western Carolina in 2015, New Mexico in 2017, Prairie View A&M in 2021, and Abilene Christian in 2023 in our final home games. We will play Samford in our final home game this year. The cupcake games should be played before November because we should play a conference opponent in our final home game every year.

That's why I'm glad the SEC went to nine conference games starting next year, and hopefully that will mean eliminating November cupcake games. We were originally scheduled to play Tarleton State on 11/21/26, but it has been cancelled. Our 2026 opener is a cupcake game against Missouri State on 9/5, and I hope our other cupcake game will be played in September or October.

It's one of the things about SEC scheduling that annoys me. When other conferences are playing meaningful games late in the season-in the SEC, we are playing cupcakes. And as the dad of a member of the FTAB, it is lost opportunity (and sucks for the fans) to have the band do their most impressive, signature drill, the Four Way Cross, at a game against a team you probably had to Google to know who they are. If the last home game of the season was always against a real team, you could probably work with whoever is broadcasting the game to show even just that part of the halftime performance and do some marketing for the Corps, the Band, and the University. If the late season cupcake goes away with the 9 game conference schedule, good riddance I say.

I did have to Google it. The school is in Austin, Texas.

I don't think Kentucky, when they scheduled Tennessee Tech for this week, planned that they'd be 10-0.

I realize they are an FCS school ( in the OVC - Big South Association) but they may have to work a bit, and Kentucky still has Vanderbilt and Louisville to play, the last 2 being on the road.

It's a message board. We see a post like this and think, you're either being sarcastic, or you're stupid. This being the Zoo, the logical assumption was that you're stupid.

This is pretty standard for SEC schedules. It seems like a waste to play 3 cupcakes in a row in September. Two warm-up games was enough to have us ready for Notre Dame. Why not save one for November when healing and rest are far more important? Why not have a break from what is typically a brutal conference schedule?

Your new to typical SEC scheduling I guess...

The FCS opponent om the second to last weekend will likely go away with the 9 game schedule anyway.

I dunno about that. Doesn't seem to be much a point to playing better teams

So you're saying that the "BAND" plays up/down to the talent level of the football teams opponent?
Obviously the SEC is out to get us. I think it's time we call for a "No Cupcakes" march right down Snowflake Lane!

Better than a bye week if you ask me. Doesn't give team two weeks to lose focus.

Playing Samford at this point of the season gives a lot of kids who haven't played much if at all an opportunity to see the field and get game snaps while maintaining the redshirts for most of them. Players can work on their techniques and it gives the coaches an opportunity to see how kids step up in real game action. All of which helps the team for the 2026 season.

Of course, this doesn't mean the team or coaches can be complacent or sloppy. Appalachian State.
