If beat Arky and A&M at home:

It is not 0% chance now but it is a long hill to climb.

the math now is really tough if you are a longhorns fan.

There are 12 spots. G5 gonna take 1. NOTRE dame gonna take 1. BIG 12 going to take 1. ACC will take 1.

That leaves 8 spots for Big 10 and SEC teams.

Ohio State, Indiana, A&M, Georgia, & Ole Miss are Locks Now to be In.

That leaves 3 spots for Big 10 and SEC teams.

Oregon, Bama, & Oklahoma are now currently in the driver's seats and control their own destinies for those remaining 3 spots.

To have any chance, the horns will need to:

- Beat Arkansas & A&M
- Root for Oregon to lose twice to both USC and Washington OR root for Bama to lose to Auburn and pray they jump a similar 9-3,Bama (I think though the 9-3,Bama resume would win out) OR root for Oklahoma to lose at home to either Mizzou or LSU and hope they jump a similar 9-3 OU
- AND, they can't have Michigan beat Ohio State because a 10-2,Michigan with that win would be in as a 4th Big 10 team
- Vandy finishing 10-2,would be a Cinderella story complication so if you are a horn fan then probably don't want Vandy winning out either.

They very well could be and should be Texas 8&4 at the end of the season - or better yet - Texas 7&5.

You realize part of their job is talking up the teams in the game they announce, right?

Tomorrow's rankings will be interesting. Everyone behind them with two losses won their games (and currently BYU).

Can't remember but were they talking us up last year during the tu game, with our 3 losses?

1. A team with 3 losses that needed overtime to beat two non bowl eligible teams should never make the playoffs

2. Read point number 1 again

I don't care that tu beat OU on a neutral field. Mateer wasn't 100% and everyone knew it and it showed.

OU beating #4 Bama at their house should be seen as a higher achievement than tu beating OU on a neutral site.
If tu finds a way to barely beat us at home, it shouldn't overcome the throttling they took @#5 UGA and Florida enough to overtake OU.

This is why 12 teams is stupid. TU would have lost to 2 playoff teams and a no bowl Florida team. Why should they get another shot at it?

This. And it was a 25 point ass kicking of a team that was supposed to be good. When a game gets that out of hand, they have to fill the air with something. And they are announcers on a national broadcast, they can't just dog the teams playing like a local radio crew can.

it started all week. This morning on Gameday and on SEC Nation they made it their prerogative to assure everyone that tu shouldn't be punished for a lass today. It was clearly a concerted effort to push that agenda

They probably assumed a closer loss. tu is ground beef after that drubbing.

All that matters to the tv networks is eyes on tv sets.

And the sips bandwagon is the biggest.

Of course the talking heads will promote them every chance they get.

If they lost a close game vs Georgia I would agree this is a possibility. But after the blow out loss I don't think anything brings em back into a playoff slot

Here's the writeup from CBS Sports, predicting tomorrow's rankings:

https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-football-rankings-tomorrows-top-25-oklahoma-moves-into-top-10-alabama/

12. Texas (10): While it's admittedly wild to consider that a three-loss team would still be this high in the rankings in mid-November, there are two factors that really strengthen Texas' resume when it comes to finding their spot in the new poll. First are the wins against both Oklahoma and Vanderbilt, with the Sooners' rising stock clearly helping that analysis. Second is a limited penalty for losing at Georgia, a team that seems to be rounding into form to make a run at another national title.

That lines up with my OP. Remember though that a TBD G5 team is going to get the 12th spot so 12th is OUT.

By that rationale, if Mizzou wins out they would have a better resume than texas.

Their losses were to Tamu, bama, and vandy all top 10. They would have wins over surging OU

They conveniently don't mention a loss to a horrible Florida team and having to go to overtime to beat the two worst teams in the league.

I hope we put 50 on those jackasses by the third quarter and Elko leaves all the starters in and is throwing deep with 2 minutes left in the game.

Why do so many of you continue to assume the normal rules and logic of ranking teams applies to a "blueblood", especially tu? Why do you insist on ignoring the X factor in these decisions that happens behind the scenes, i.e. television viewership?

Sad part is at halftime, some people were starting to think that a potential 2-loss A&M team might not get in. But now we see a 3-loss sip team still has a chance.

I may be in the minority but 12 teams is too many.

You think the bias is less impactful with fewer teams? It's the opposite. At least this way better non-sip teams have a chance on the field, even if corrupt refs can influence that too (see sips - Arizona State last year).

With a smaller playoff, they'd just try to squeeze the undeserving sips, Notre Dame, etc. into fewer spots, leaving more deserving teams out. At least with 12 there's a better chance the sips (and their corrupt lackey commentators at ESPN) will be humiliated on the field.

Miami at 10-2 is another competitor for the spot. They most likely won't be in the ACC title game

Miami is +370 to make the playoff
Texas is +1000 to make the playoff

G5 champ
Notre dame
Big12 champ
Acc champ
Sec champ
Big champ

Indiana
Bama
Ole Miss
Georgia

That's 10 locks, leaving only 2 more spots, currently held by Oklahoma and Oregon

If OU and Oregon don't lose, that's your field

Then you have to consider byu, 2 loss vandy, 2 loss Miami

If tu had lost close I'd say they still had a chance but I think this loss drops them to around 15 , behind those 3 teams

But then they still have to beat ark and us, and after the grit we showed today, our team is not losing to those chumps
