That's a quote from that little ******, Taaffe, who got his ass trucked in the Arky game.
They were quoting Taaffe. I know someone who was a year ahead of him at Westlake HS, and I will say the default mentality there is largely tu, and if you can't, go to A&M. It's frustrating because I chose A&M as an out-of-stater after having visiting both schools. I wasn't attracted to the idea of living in Austin and having the school so intertwined with the city, rather than isolated. Also was much more attracted to A&M being a senior military college rather than just having an ROTC program like tu. Plus I knew the typical belief profiles of students would be different.

In the modern era, everyone who went to A&M had a choice of colleges.
The narrative that tu is the first choice for a lot of Aggies is a huge cultural myth told again and again to kids in Austin. It's part of the frustrating superiority complex that tu fans/grads can display.

Greg McElroy said it and while he did QB for bama he is also from Southlake and has admitted often that he is a tu fan.
I grew up in Austin and only applied to A&M. Once I got accepted, I didn't need to apply to any backups like tu.
He's a HUGE tu homer. He has one of their helmets in his show background. It's probably true for him. Couldn't get into tu so went to bama.
I was new to Texas and didn't know much about either schools. We visited Austin and I knew right away that wasn't for me so we detoured to TAMU instead of going directly home. I fell in love.

I have two siblings who went to t.u. and (for the past 50-plus years) have told them that had they studied harder in high school, they, too, could have gotten into A&M.

Yep. Only state school I applied to was TAMU.
I applied to both, got in to both, and have been watching ****ty football ever since.
I knew where I was going to college at A&M before the time I entered elementary school. Never considered tu. Many T-shirt tsip fellow HS students switched to A&M their senior year.
As a HS valedictorian, I was an auto-admit to both. My parents made me apply to tu because I was eligible for a pretty big scholarship there. Thank God I didn't get the scholarship because I was free to choose A&M where I met Kiddoc three years later!

Another college was never considered. I knew I wanted to go to A&M from the time I knew anything about college. I have NEVER worn any other college logo except a Miami Hurricane cap I bought to wear when Miami played the sips decades ago.
I was invited to attend Princeton and offered a full ride at Austin College in Sherman, but chose A&M because it was where my friends went. I left A&M with a lot more friends - a WHOLE lot more.
Never applied to UT. Visited the campus and saw what a dump Austin was and never considered going there after that. Applied to 3 schools, was accepted to all 3, only ever considered A&M

Was out of state as well (Arkansas). Grew up a hog fan (Lololol) so hating the horns just felt right from that perspective. Had some ties to A&M in my extended family, and as soon as I attended an A&M game early on in HS, it was all she wrote. Never had any desire to keep Austin weird or waste the time and paper to apply to that dump of a school in downtown Austin.
