They were quoting Taaffe. I know someone who was a year ahead of him at Westlake HS, and I will say the default mentality there is largely tu, and if you can't, go to A&M. It's frustrating because I chose A&M as an out-of-stater after having visiting both schools. I wasn't attracted to the idea of living in Austin and having the school so intertwined with the city, rather than isolated. Also was much more attracted to A&M being a senior military college rather than just having an ROTC program like tu. Plus I knew the typical belief profiles of students would be different.
