Every other team they have is already in the ACC. I've never understood why football gets to be special.

What is ND going to do with third-tier sports like lacrosse, men's soccer, water polo, gymnastics etc if they aren't in the ACC?

Good point. Does the B1G have those sports? Because the SEC does not have all of them, I think..

Copilot says yes: "Yes, the Big Ten Conference includes sports such as lacrosse, men's soccer, water polo, and gymnastics among others. The conference is known for its strong athletic programs and competitive teams across various sports"

It looks like the BIG might be missing Fencing, but Northwestern participates in something called

the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference

Except they are butt-hurt in how the ACC lobbied against them for Miami.

Welp, Big 12 was a long shot anyway. But ND will probably go nuclear about these comments too.

I'm starting to wonder if the committee knew what it was doing when the kept 3-loss Bama and swapped Miami with ND...this could be a collective FU and warning shot at ND to put them in their place.

Or maybe I'm just an eternal optimist.

Not a long shot...more like not in a million years shot. There is no reality where ND joins the Big12. None.

But that's not why Yormark did it. He did it to come to the aid of his ACC counterpart and show solidarity with the only other conference that is basically in the exact same boat as his conference.

If that was the case, there wouldn't be the written guarantee that starting next year ND has a guaranteed spot as long as they are ranked 12th or higher. That bit of news this past week was the gut punch to those of us who wish the CFP would put ND in their place.

They put them in a place alright. Just not the one we think they deserve.

in the current format the big 12 isn't the reject league. they will get 1 to 2 teams a year and the seeding of tech shows the committee is not goijg to give the sec any benefit of the doubt. notre dame would be smart to go to the big 12. they and tech would totally run it and geographically it will be a decent fit as well.

The committee's body of work does not support any grand scheme to put Notre Dame in its place. I'm not even sure those morons could tell one the difference between simple things, like apples and oranges.

Yormack has done a great job as big 12 commissioner. Big 12 looked headed for irrelevance 3 years ago and is now arguably the 3rd most powerful conference.

Yes. The only part you are missing is that the B12 is better than the ACC so the schedule would actually be more difficult. But this doesn't matter because the B12 commissioner went off on the ND AD. It was a thing of beauty.

"Current format" is doing a lot of work there. Do you want to be in the Big 12 when the "current format" falls in 10 years?

My biggest complaint is he basically got rid of most of the rivalries. He's a savvy businessman, but he has no appreciation for the things that make college athletics great.

good point. But is there overlap between the playoff committee and the people who granted them the top twelve golden ticket? (idk exactly who gave them the golden ticket). I'll bet a majority of people in the cfb biz don't buy into the whole "what's good for ND is good for cfb" bit any more, and like us, they're tired of their *****

ND has already negotiated that they are auto in if in the top 12. They literally can schedule as minimally as possible and go 11-1 and will almost guarantee to be top 12 on name alone. Why would they give that up?

I am more curious about how ND plans to enforce that?

This is the first time ever that the Irish have found themselves in a tough spot. They have made everyone play their game, by their rules, for decades. Now they are at a point where they do not control the dice; others do. They are in a squeeze, and they are scared. If they stay independent, Most Power 4 will not schedule them. If they join a conference, the risk is unity in a conference. Just imagine the big sister of the Austin cryers, that is the Irish in a conference. She would utterly destroy a conference with their dramatic ways.

ND is not run by the football team. It cares a lot about academics and ethics (even if it views ethics differently than others). Because of that, it will not join the Big12. Baylor is the only school ranked higher academically than the ACC's lowest school (Louisville) and the B10s lowest three schools (all new additions in the last 25 years), but none of the long-term schools.

Academics will be the SEC's biggest hurdle to pull ND. SEC is held down by Miss St, Ole Miss, Bama, and LSU. If we can get North Carolina and Virginia, then it will increase the odds of ND looking south. Miami and USC are established ND rivals and rank high academically and would also help. At that point, the conference would be huge. It will be more like the NFL.

USNWR ranking
Notre Dame 20
Virginia 26
North Carolina 26
USC 28
A&M 51
Miami 64

This B1G could have already taken Cal and Stanford, and left them out. They are deadweight. Maybe Kansas?

ND to the Big12 actually is not as crazy as it seems; probably a much better fit than the ACC these days for numerous reasons.

Dunno. The only Big 12 school that come close academically to Notre Dame is Iowa State. I doubt Domers want to hold their noses when playing and interacting with the very pedestrian Big 12 schools. They are used to USC, Stanford, Navy, and Michigan types. Its a thing to those Domers.

Actually they would run that conference. They could demand unequal revenue. They should do it.
