No. Past history doesn't affect the current team. But, still. As a fan. It sure feels that day when you look at the record

So yeah, it only makes sense to guard against the inevitable disappointment. History as a fan dictates this reasonable response

Let me guess…you said this before Notre Dame. Before LSU. Before Missouri. And then you went away for a while and we lost to tu and now you feel big and strong and relevant again. And so here you are.
nope. Said it all along. It's not about feeling relevant. It's a message board about college football. None of this is relevant.

Hope the Ags win. It's a big test. Is the season a disaster if they don't? No.

I do expect them to sheet the bed though. 1-9 when game day is in town. That's losing the big game. Damn near every time

Technically the answer is yes by your own admission.

I'm looking forward to the game. I wish we won every game we played, but every team & fan base wants that. I want to see them fight till the end & not give up.

The wins will keep coming if they play like that.

This is the price as success. I hope we lose coordinators every few years. That means we're winning.

I agree and add one caveat. Not fall flat on their face like Charlie whiffing a kick with Lucy pulling the ball. It's rarely a hard fought heavyweight fight. It's the Ags falling clean on their face

I know this staff is paying for the sins of MANY previous coaches who have come this way before them.
But
BAS creeps in when you ONCE AGAIN fade late into the season.
Only this year we had Scar and Samford, so it was salvageable.

All season as I pointed out areas of concern I was told to be grateful and stop complaining and enjoy the win. Even the TA radio boys were beating that drum.

But those issues were exposed when we
A) laid down to tu.
Or
B) did as the " pundits" said and lost when we finally played someone decent.

I'd like to think that we DID play tough teams and merely saw burnt orange and crawled into the fetal position surrendering to our arch rival.
Which is exactly how that game went.

And I know those games , like bowl games matter not in the new pay to play it's-all-about-the-money era
But for passionate fans, it still dumps a load of doubt on us.
In fact, as a mental experiment, imagine losing to LSU but beating tu. You would be more confident right now.

That game is doing more than coordinators moving.

Elke is the Defense guru. So the DC leaving does not worry me.
Klein leaving has me looking forward to intelligent play calling in the red zone

Summary
We have faded late (Again) but may actually have more talent back for Miami
New OC and DC to call plays may be just what we need to blow on the embers

One-loss pity party. No thanks

Game day coming to town

It's all the classic signs of an embarrassing crapping of the bed by an A&M FB team about to unfold.

This game more than any other will tell us if Elko is for real or it's just another 5 years of same old same

My guess is you will keep makings posts like this forever. Even if we win the game.

The hardest part is that you can't point to anything I said that is wrong

Historically this the scenario where we always crap the bed and therefore Elko being able to not do that will tell us more than anything

If he can prove that he can win the big game with bigger expectations against a talented opponent then we know he's for real

Just like against Notre Dame and LSU, right?

Just like coming back from a 30 point deficit to win, right?

Just like going undefeated at Kyle, right?

Did you just not watch this entire season?

Oh that guy has two of the most legendary threads on this site where he boldly made negative predictions that blew up all over his face.

Again, I invite you to show where I'm wrong

This game is bigger than any of those.

The expectations are higher than any of those.

The national attention will be higher than any of those.

It's literally the biggest test of Elkos tenure here because historically, this is the sort of game where we melt under this kind of pressure.

If Elko can instead deliver a win against quality opponent with immense expectations and scrutiny and literally everything on the line then it will definitively prove he is our guy

It's not enough to win if you can't close the deal and win the games that really really matter to get you to the next level to win the hardware and this is one of those games.

Now once again I invite you to show where any of that is wrong or where you disagree

Why can't we have ONE good year where everything goes our way??

Apparently you're not in tune with Aggie Football, because Bateman was OC by name only. He was inept at his duties, just like Klien. Both were probably a "leave or be fired" situation.

We're fine and way better off for next season, but the only thing that concerns me is Klein coaching through the playoffs. If it were up to me, he'd be gone.

Hmm ok.

They were both Elko's picks.
This should have happened after the season.

Are you sure about that? Jimbo's picks were done by the AD.

Outside of Gameday, both the ND and LSU games this season meet this criteria.

Remember, you predicted that the Ags would lose to ND, LSU, Arkansas, and SC.

Best you sit these conversations out because you've been nothing but wrong.

I am in the show me stage of being a fan of A&M football. I don't really hope or despair. I will believe we have turned the corner when I see it.

It would be nice to have one playoff win. It would be really nice if the team and coaches look prepared and play well regardless of outcome in any game we get to play in the post season.

I really hope Elko is the guy. We will see what happens soon.

If we win an NC it is. The only thing that makes it good is not the seven ranking v. five in 2020 but the 12 playoff slots.

It is an opportunity to move a bunch of rocking chairs in the fan base of already anxious cats, though…
Gaius Rufus
How long do you want to ignore this user?
This season has been a massive success, regardless of whether A&M wins a playoff game.

Many on this board predicted the Ags would go 6-6 to 8-4 this season.

A&M was picked to finish 8th in the SEC.

https://www.secsports.com/news/2025/07/preseason-sec-football-media-poll-all-sec-team-announced

This is the 5th time in the history of Aggie football that a team has won 11 games in a season, and the first time in 13 years.

https://sports.yahoo.com/article/best-seasons-texas-m-history-032428764.html

Nobody expected A&M to go 11-1, and nobody expected A&M to win at ND or win at LSU. The idea that folks on here are now retroactively claiming this season is a failure if the Ags don't win a playoff game is beyond absurd.

When I pointed out this happened against LSU and ND, you immediately moved the goal posts to TV viewership.

When I pointed out that almost 10 MILLION people watched A&M play ND, you immediately moved the goal posts to splitting hairs over 600,000 viewers.

You were wrong with your first claim. You were wrong when you moved the goalposts the first time. You were wrong when you moved the goalposts the second time.

Your the one being intentionally obtuse here

I said this game is more important than any other we've played because historically it's the kind of game we perform poorly in

I also said Elko overcoming it and winning this sort of game which matters way more than those two did because it's a next step kind of game where all the nations attention is on us then it will prove he is our guy and can do what no coach has done here in forever.

You're the one who can't simply agree that's true because of some weird need to never acknowledge that this program has yet to take the real step forward and win on the biggest stage when everyone is watching and it's do or die.

But if your weird position is that you don't care if we can overcome and beat Miami on the biggest possible stage because we had a good regular season and therefore nothing left to prove then that's on you
