Chelsea should've had multiple yellows if that's the case. I think Bailly ended up getting a yellow while he was pointing for Lukaku to give him the yards on a free kick

That was hilarious. Lukaku was standing there literally delaying the restart while Bailly was begging Taylor to move him back and Bailly got the card.

Ragnick is officially the interim manager. Whether or not he manages against Arsenal will be dependent on whether his work visa is completed in time.

We concede the absolute silliest goals

I don't understand why we bought Sancho to finally give us a RW if we're just going to play Rashford at RW and Sancho on the left

Wow. 2 goals in the open run of play, both square passes in the area.

Then Rashford provides the assist to Ronaldo as I hit post

In fairness, Carrick started Sancho on the right against Villarreal and Chelsea and he more or less stayed there. I think this was an intentional effort to perhaps have Sancho cut in to provide space for Telles crosses.

Think it's really smart of Carrick to leave United in this manner. If he wants to improve as a manager/coach, he needs to succeed and get exposed to other clubs and ideas. This plus the results of the last 3 games has more or less removed the question marks about his culpability in the team's play the last months of Ole's tenure.

Apropos of nothing, I can't see your new manager's name without my brain convoluting it to read Ranger Rick. So congratulations!

I have no idea why Carrick left, but do you really think he needs to go to another club to be exposed to different ideas?

In his last 15 years he has been coached by, or been a part of a staff under, Ferguson, Moyes, Van Gaal, Mourinho and Solksjear. Some differing philosophies and styles in that group.

I wish him the best, always loved what Carrick brought as a player and his commitment to the club. I was surprised he left now, but probably a good time for him to step away.

It does give Rangnick the chance to start over. It also may be Carrick saying he's tired of the carousel and meat grinder right now.

It wasn't a dominating win. And I did not expect Fred to be the goal scorer. But the clean sheet was very nice to see. Ralf era starts with a W.

Man, the first 45 was some of the most exciting soccer I've seen played from a United squad since maybe SAF, despite no goals being scored. Tons of chances, counterpressing. Just really damn fun and exciting. Died down in the 2nd half which could have been just fitness, but for 45 minutes, I was super impressed.

I just read some interesting speculation from the German media that Jesse Marsch may rejoin Rangnick as as assistant now that Leipzig has fired him.

For sure but generally speaking, it's a good thing to work for different clubs with different player types, constraints, etc.
Dre_00

Rangnick mentioned that, with Brexit, it's been challenging getting a staff assembled. I assume that Marsch would present similar challenges though I have no idea what the visa requirements are for hiring a non-UK football coach and if the challenges are merely that it takes longer or that it's not possible.

It appears Chris Armas will join Rangnick's staff at OT (according to Mr. Twellman and now confirmed by others). Apparently the bar for a non-UK coach is a UEFA Pro License, which Armas doesn't have, but he won his appeal.

Great news for Armas.

Now here's one from Manchester media that showed up in my Leipzig feed:

https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/manchester-united-rangnick-jesse-marsch-22375554

Author even suggests that Marsch could take over when Rangnick moves to the consultant role.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Armas and Marsch on the staff would be great!
Dre_00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Marsch on the staff would be one thing. I highly doubt he'd be promoted to manager after Rangnick. I don't think he's had enough success to warrant it but I could see it becoming a springboard to an EPL job somewhere.

First thing I thought of was "can you imagine the protests in the street if the American owners hire an American head coach?"

I agree it seems far fetched, and I'm not sure I'd wish that on him, as high profile as it would be. Still fascinating that the author even floats it as a possibility.

Agreed. We've gone from "why can't Americans get coaching jobs in Europe" to "please God may that American not get THAT coaching job in Europe"

Since United have already clinched 1st in their group, Rangnick unsurprisingly confirmed that the team tonight would feature a lot of fringe players. Diallo and Elanga were specifically mentioned. Matic as captain with Mata, Greenwood, and Van de Beek mentioned as well.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't necessarily hope y'all lose, but if it happened and if Villarreal beats Atalanta then Pefok gets to play in Europa.
Furlock Bones
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'd like to see us keep another clean sheet. But, if we don't, I hope Pefok scores again.
Aston94
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Said Henderson would feature in goal as well.

He needs to see all the squad play and since this game is pretty close to meaningless it makes a lot of sense. Schedule gets very busy from now through January so good to get some players some rest.
Aston94
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Matic captaining the team. Maybe he is dropping into back 4?
Dre_00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agreed. It's a great opportunity for these players to get rewarded with increased playing time if they play well tonight *cough*Van de Beek*cough*
Dre_00

Well Chelsea screwing the pooch in the last minute of added time means our list of potential Rof16 opponents is a little shorter than I expected.

PSG
Atletico
Sporting Lisbon
Inter
Barca/Benfica*
God only knows from Group G

Meanwhile, Chelsea now have a 50/50 chance of drawing either Real Madrid or Bayern in the Rof16.
