I would never be chosen for one of these games, but if I were a ref in one of these games the first guy to grab the ball to stop the restart would get a warning to him and everyone on his team and then cards would start flying. That kind of BS is what gets you to this point in the game and it's because this buffoon didn't stop the little things.

A Mexican referee with questionable decision making and game control in a USMNT match?

Never seen that before.

He was suspended for 6 months for trying to get Messi's jersey. I think this was his first game back. It's a little surprising. Then again it's CONCACAF so it's normal operating procedure.

60 min mark and Holden talking out of his ass, the game has been much differnt in the 2nd half with Berhalter dropping back and Freeman pushing forward and then alsl Mcglynn shifting inside.
Bethalter is not only a much better passer, but the threat of that pass causes saudi to play differently. He can also carry the ball forward.
And then freeman pushed up on the wing xauses them to have to sag back more to respect his speed.
Theyve created more chances in 15 min than we did the whole first half and it feels like Stu is just repeating a talking point he decided on at half time. Bit annoying

Also ref is garbage

I was unimpressed with freeman multiple times throughout the match- defensively, making the attacking transition runs, passing/touch/technical skill

Post game, Lalas and Donovan both seemed unimpressed with Agyemang and I disagree. He was close several times, but he's got technical skill, tactical awareness, size and speed, and he was aggressive.

Luna is a dog with excellent vision and touch. He'll be in the WC squad next year imo.

Tillman continues to get better and better in his development

Arfsten- I hadn't seen him much before- could he be the guy behind Jedi at LB finally? He played smart and made all the runs.

Behalter- great ball on the assist, but he looked like a quick and skillful 6 with smart decisions and great passes all night. Is he going to surpass the fading LDLT and Johnny by next year's WC?

Could not disagree more on Arfsten and Agyemang, agree with everything else.

I hope Luna makes it. Solid technically and has that fire

Agyemang is still too raw to really contribute at a high international level to me.

Luna has good skill and fight, but he seems a bit on the slow side for someone his size, or at least it seems to me. He'll be a contributor for sure given his willingness to mix it up.

Tillman's defense has improved a lot. That through ball to Downs was very very good.

Agyemang is just really raw but then he flashes some talent as well. He made a few nice runs through traffic and should have been given at least one of those as a free kick from a dangerous spot if the ref wasn't just letting them hack away. If he continues to develop his technical skill then I think he could be dangerous.

He definitely is at best #3, behind Pepi and Balogun. As Dike gets back to fitness, wonder if Poch will bring him in for a look as he's probably more polished than Agyeman with similar skillset.

Still annoying to me that Sargent wasn't called in for this. He was named Norwich's Player of the Year. I know its the Championship, but he should be given more looks

I don't have a clear-cut #1, 2, 3 in our player pool at center forward.

Balo, is one of them, and I think Pepi should be, but not sure- he's getting pressure from others. Poch seems to like Haji Wright but he's still hurt. That Downs kid that got in last night looked the part and plays in Bundesliga for Cologne- he didn't show enough in closing minutes last night, but looks promising. Brandan Vasquez continues to improve. Sargent has proven himself at club in the past and has utility at other positions like right wingback. No idea how Dike is doing, or other guys that have been capped in recent years like Jordan Pefolk or Nico Gioacchini. but out of the 8 or 9 players I just mentioned, I think I'd put Agyeman solidly in the mix with all of them right now and he's going to continue to improve.

Is Jack McGlynn our Cole Palmer? He's certainly working the hairdo. Wonder if he has an affinity for chippy chips.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

Arfsten was atrocious last night. Technically, tactically, in possession. He was a liability. In fact, both of our wingbacks were terrible last night. Zero creativity through the center channel. Zero off the ball movement. Only when we played direct or won the ball via our (occasional, erratic, unorganized, half-ass) press did things get exciting in the attacking third. We could be in big trouble next summer...

I think he's definitely behind Balogun (17 caps, 5 goals) and Pepi (23 caps, 12 goals) and in the mix with the others as the 2nd tier. The guys in the 2nd tier just hasn't shown they can consistently score for USMNT, Sargent included.

Side note - this squad for the Gold Cup are lacking two things:
1. Ability to dribble past people
2. Team speed

Ream, Richards, Freeze at the back end seems solid though... but is Ream aging out too much for next summer WC?

also, switch out Freeman for our first choice RB: Dest, and Arfsten for our first choice LB: Antonee Robinson, and it's a world of difference in a back line... we continue to need more reliable depth in the player pool though. Can't just bank on both Dest and Robinson being healthy heading into and throughout the WC and playing 90+ min every single WC match.
