Why didn't mcglyn or Bryan white take a pk? Or even ream or Richards over Tolken?
I never really second guess who takes the PK.

Guys on team always know who the best PK takers are. It's one of those things you've done 7 million times around each other...some of your best options for PKs might be a dude who's just nails at it, but 3rd team. I wondered if a couple of those late subs were specifically for that reason.

Exactly this. It's a tangential skill.

I don't know if Berhalter is worthy of a spot on the roster.

However, I'd bring him in to teach the USMNT on how to serve balls on free kicks. He was a weapon out there. And that's something that we've stunk at for years. (I'm looking at you Pulisic)

I think that perspective. Half of his balls were not good. Half were good.

Pulisic is about the same.

And keep in mind Pulisic had 4 corner assists and a goal last season in Serie A.

that's kindof my point.. McGlynn and White were late subs just like Tolken was.. I thought perhaps those attacking minded players might be needed for PKs. ...Tolken's take was just bad is all.

White was never going to take the PK. Think Ageyman was tired and White came in to replace. Very surprised McGlynn didn't take one of the PK's though.

Blah blah blah. Blah blah Goalkeeper competition! Blah blah blah. Door wide open. Blah blah.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

If turner rides the bench again, I'm ok with Freese being GK1

Arfsten is just awful

I genuinely dont get what people see that are pumping him up.
Hes ok for C string games I guess, but this dude should never be on a WC roster

After Antonee Robinson, our clear first choice LB, and besides Arfsten who has played more minutes than Tolken in this tournament, here is a list of the dudes who have recent caps for USMNT at left back:

John Tolkin
Kristofer Lund
DeJuan Jones
George Bello

I think Kevin Peredes might be a LB as well.. not that many caps for us.

..and there are a couple of skilled more natural RBs that have experience for club and/or country at LB like Sergino Dest and Joe Scally...

but look at the LB depth in our player pool after Jedi.. It's not good. At least Arften has had more overlapping attack transition runs and crosses than I ever remember any of those other four (Tolken, Lund, Bello, Jones) ...and an assist and a goal last night. I think Arfsten might be our second-best true/natural LB right now.

I did this same research this morning with similar conclusions.

For my money I'd take whoever of Dest or Scally isn't at right back.

in a 26 man squad for the World Cup, how many full backs do you want to roster? Because our depth at RB is pretty scary right now too.

Dest and Scally are clear cut top 2. After that, it's another ugly crap shoot. Recent RB caps besides those two:

Freeman - been awful in this gold cup- far worse than Arfsten, IMO
Shaq Moore?
Bryan Reynolds?
Yedlin? Cannon?

There are some versatile players at other positions who have played some right fullback for club- Tyler Adams. and some of our wingers have had wing-back roles - Tim Weah, Josh Sargent a few years ago.

but as it stands, WC roster lock at LB is Jedi and at RB are Dest and Scally, both of whom can play LB if needed. That's three dudes.. then who right now? Arfsten? Lund? Freeman? That would give you 3 for each side along with the versatility of Dest and Scally.

Hos is Scally a lock? Did he turn down this tournament?

if Scally is not a lock then maybe we're in even worse shape. ...which means ole Arfsten could be on the way to locking himself a spot right now.

really, we need to hope that Jedi and Dest are healthy in June 2026 and can play every minute of every match in the WC

He should be a lock but I think I know more about the player pool than Poch.

Don't disagree at all. My guess at right back next up would be Moore or Cannon, but seems like we've gotten a lot of recent callups I'm not very familiar with.

And looks like Scally was left off the GC roster which seems questionable given all the other absences.

We'll have a better idea of what the WC roster will look like during the Sept window. Who of the non-Euro based players on this Gold Cup roster will be in the September camp?

Luna
Ream
Freese
De La Torre?
Ageyman (depending on Pepi and Balogun health)?
Arfsten?
Berhalter?

Anyone else? I see maybe either de la Torre or Berhalter but not both.
