There's something to be said for a ref understanding they're part of the spectacle and allowing the game to get close to that edge and then keep it on edge before it spills over. There's an art to it. This referee to have gotten that part right. Whether she knew she was doing it or not is arguable. But at least she did it.

A red card in the first half would've ruined what we got thru extra time and penalties. Marta's goal at the end of regulation is an all-time WORLDY. never would've happened with that red card.

Yeah. I get that international tourneys and red cards don't exactly go together and that international finals and red cards are just about mutually exclusive, but there were 3 separate acts of VC in that sequence. Giving one YC was a really pushing the envelope. But I guess if the players accept it then managing the spectacle is the plan and she can still land the plane.

And I guess she can't give offsetting YCs for that mess in the area. Since the Brazilian player initiated it with the 2 footed kick out the restart would be a DFK coming out. By giving only the one she changed that outcome.
