Far more opportunity for risk than reward with Reyna. Very surprised he'd get picked over Luna, if true.

He hasn't started a game for Gladbach this calendar year. And not due to any injury. He rode the pine and only got minutes in half the games since Jan.

So he's neither in-form, nor a good team-player. Solid choice.

Was mentioned on the other US thread, luckily seems more minor than it sounds.

And agreed on the Luna discussion. If it's between him and Reyna, assuming neither is going to see a ton of minutes, Luna has earned it in this past qualifying cycle.

I dont think any decision is between Reyna and Luna, they fill different spots on your roster.

They both fall into the generic "attacking midfielder" bucket, but either way we expected Luna on the roster and Reyna off.

I always expected Reyna to be on because he has skills no one else in the player pool does. I also expected Luna to make it, though. But I dont think they occupy the same spot on the field, nor do they go about it the same way. Just my thoughts.

But if that's the case, who was Luna bumped for? Because Reyna is really the only name many weren't expecting that's on the roster.

Not trying to be argumentative (and really doesn't matter either way), I just don't see any other somewhat like for like swaps that were a surprise.

I think we decided to go with an extra defender. My thinking is they think between Pulisic and Tillman we dont need Luna maybe? Its confusing

I still think Reyna is a bigger risk than reward.

Dude has a ton of raw talent, but he has been benched by Dortmund, Forest, and now a very mediocre Gladbach. Hard to know why, but if he was as good as many think he is, he wouldn't have whiffed 3 times in a row. Meanwhile, we do know that there's old drama with him.

I've said it before a while ago… I kinda get the feeling that with Scally and Gio, you had to either bring both, or neither. Bringing one without the other means they're a toxic turd with no friends in the locker room. We need Scally, and Gio might be useful, so he comes. That's my wild ass guess, cause objectively nothing else makes sense. He barely plays for his club. If it was based on soccer alone, he wouldn't be in the squad.

Sometimes looking to how much a guy gets played at their club, especially Yanks overseas, may not be the best indicator. See Pulisic after he left Dortmund.

Yeah those are drastically different situations.

If we had a player on the bench at Real Madrid (who did get some playing time), I'd be pissed if he wasn't in the squad.

Meanwhile, most MLS teams would give Gladbach a run for their money, and many would deservedly win. So the Europe vs. MLS is moot here IMO.

Yeah I don't get it, but the talent is undeniable and I think he only gets asked to come in as a sub when chasing a goal.

Totally fair, also worth mentioning Poch seems to have emphasized that minutes matter.

If they don't they don't and that's fine (and there can be a variety of situations as you mentioned), but seems only fair to be consistent about it either way. Particularly when it's not getting minutes at a very average club.
