He's been fired twice by Chelsea right. Going for the hat trick

Frank 3.0 is coming. We all know it. It's just a matter of time.

Really hoping that Wolves relish the role of spoiler this weekend. I don't want Spurs to get an easy 3 points because the team is dejected or checked out.

If Frankie is cursed by the 3rd time at Chelsea, then Mourinho would be too.

Which one makes the 3rd time the charm?

I don't think they will go with either, but between the two, I think they need someone to come in and sort out their roster, and that's more of the type of thing a big personality traditional manager like Jose would do. It's not the kind of thing Super Frank does. But they probably want a yes man to come in that doesn't actually make waves, so I expect some random name that can't say no again.

Another weekend of relegation football is at hand, with the focus turning this weekend to the three clubs who are still seeking to avoid the last relegation spot. Wolves and Burnley are now officially relegated, leaving one spot open. Leeds play an FA Cup semi this weekend, so their match was played earlier in the week against Bournemouth. Our three main contenders for the last relegation spot all play this weekend, however, so will be some great entertainment.

Current Standings
Team. Matches Played. Points.
15. Leeds United 34 40
16. Nottingham Forest 33 36
17. West Ham 33 33
18. Spurs 33 31
19. Burnley 34 20
20. Wolves 33 17

Key Weekend Relegation Matches

Today (Friday)

Sunderland v. Nottingham Forest (2pm, USA Network, Stadium of Light)Forest make the trip north to Sunderland for a Friday night matchup with the Black Cats. Both clubs are in good form, with Sunderland winning three of their last five (3-2-0 for 9 points) and Forest undefeated in their last five (2-0-3 for 9 points). Forest are probably two wis away from guaranteeing themselves safety, but they would probably fancy a point tonight up in Sunderland, always a difficult place to play. The clubs last met in late September at Nottingham, with Sunderland claiming a 1-0 victory, but that was two managers ago for Forest, so I am sure that game is all but forgotten.

Saturday

West Ham v. Everton (9:00am, Peacock, London Stadium)West Ham will welcome the Toffees to East London, looking to claim three points and keep the gap over Tottenham. West Ham have definitely played better as of late, claiming points in four of their last five (2-1-2 for 8 points), and Everton have the same record and point total over their last five matches. The Hammers have some tricky fixtures coming up, so claiming three points and keeping the pressure on the Spurs will be vital. Everton still hold European aspirations, as they are only 3 points behind 6th place, so the Toffees will be keen to claim three points as well. Should be a good one.

Wolves v. Tottenham (9:00am, USA Network, Molineux Stadium)The now-officially relegated Wolves will look to play the role of spoiler as Tottenham travel to the Midlands looking for a vital three points in Wolverhampton. This is clear must win territory for the Spurs, as they cannot afford to fall further behind West Ham (and Forest) in their efforts to claw out of the bottom three. Will be interesting to see if Wolves play with more freedom and more relaxed now that their fate is sealed. No game is a sure thing for Spurs at this point, but they have to find a way to come back to North London on Saturday with three points in hand. Will be must watch TV.

Enjoy the weekend.

NF is thumping Sunderland 4-0 at 60'.

This is turning into a 2 horse race.

ETA Sunderland apparently reads TA. It's 4-1 at 61'.

ETA2. VAR does not want to give WHU or Spurs any shred of life. Goal disallowed for Offside. Back to 4-0.

Huge win for Forest! They can turn most their attention to Europe now and now their EPL spot is almost secured.

Tomorrow will be a big, big day for Spurs.

I'm probably one of only a few in this boat, but as an EPL neutral, I think I'd rather see West Ham go down.

Maybe I watched too much Ted Lasso. But more on point, I'm not a fan of hooliganism.

No blood this weekend as all the relegation battlers win. West Ham and Tottenham's victories means Forest are still in the discussion, and it will be another week with Spurs in the bottom three.

Dramatic finish to the two games today!

Spurs have AVL, Leeds, Chelsea, Everton

WHU have Brentford, Arsenal, Saud United and Leeds.

Ad much as I want Spurs to go just for sheer chaos, I still think they have the slight schedule advantage. They need one net win.

The parity in the league is unbelievable this year. Just ten points separating 6th from 15th. That number at the end of the last two seasons was 23. It won't get there this year.

I'm sure 40 is still safe but…

Opta's updated predicted table has the odds very close to 60% Spurs relegated, 37% West Ham, then about 2% Forest and 1% Leeds. So basically 60/40 split, with a slight possibility of something crazy.

Rochdale scored the go ahead goal in stoppage time. Their supporters rushed the field. It took forever to clear the pitch. They were going to play +6 and York City scored at +12.

Videos are sheer madness.

There's an FA investigation into the game. I don't think it's about the result but about the 2 pitch invasions and a possible assault by a York player on a fan in the first one.

I'll offer an unpopular take… I think it's (well past) time to do away with stoppage time and instead stop the clock for stoppages. That way everyone knows how much time is actually left instead of going nuts and acting like the game is over when there's more than a minute left to play.

Especially in this era of water breaks, etc - just stop the clock. It's easy to do, and it'd prevent premature pitch invasions.

Not really the right topic for it, but since I brought him up… Jose potentially going to a different former club… Real Madrid Wow. Per Ornstein, so can't discount the source too much.

this has been picking up steam. and honestly, I think it just might work. Real Madrid is lacking 2 things since Kroos and Modric left. discipline and leadership.

They probably aren't going to find a veteran midfielder that can martial the likes of Mbappe and Vini. So, the next best option is a veteran manager that brings those qualities.

Honestly I'm kinda surprised RM doesn't have its own thread. Or at the very least, this topic probably merited its own thread because Mourinho himself is so notorious.

But since it's here…

RM does seem to cycle through coaches a lot - though it's hard to truly tell from the outside if successful ones (Ancelotti, Zidane, etc) leave because they were pushed out or if they leave because they could only stand being in the pressure cooker for so long. Maybe it's a combo of both.

But there's also an interesting track record of coaches returning, like the same two I mentioned above… however, unlike those, Mourinho didn't win UCL with them.

Honestly, it feels like he hasn't really been Special in a very long time… and the decline may have started with his last stint at Madrid. It seems like a surprising hire, if true.

Rumblings that Anderson to City could lead to Rodri to RM, which could lead to the Tchoumeni to United move that's newly rumored. Anyway, they could well make a galactico midfield signing as well.

Seems like a good time to run through all the lower leagues, see who is being promoted/going into playoffs, and who is being relegated, in each division. This coming weekend is the last regular season weekend for the EFL clubs:

Championship
(Top 2 Automatically qualify, teams 3-6 go into playoff for third promotion spot. Bottom 3 clubs are relegated)

Team GP Pts
1. Coventry City 45 92
2. Ipswich Town 45 81
3 Millwall 45 80
4. Middlesbrough 45 79
5. Southampton 45 77
6. Wrexham 45 70
7. Hull City 45 70
8. Derby County 45 69

Coventry have clinched their spot in next season's premier league. With one game remaining Ipswich leads for the second automatic qualifier, with Millwall and Middlesbrough still in the hunt.
Wrexham currently lead for the final playoff spot, but Hull and Derby are right on their heals. Hull trail only on goal differential, and that is just by one goal.

The bottom three are all decided, as Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester and Oxford United have been relegated to League 1.

Key matches (all to be played Saturday at 6:30am our time):
Derby v. Sheffield United
Hull v. Norwich
Ipswich v. QPR
Millwall v. Oxford United
Preston North End v. Southampton
Wrexham v. Middlesbrough

So Wrexham and Middlesbrough are the only two clubs playing another team still in the battle, both with a ton to play for.

League One
(Top 2 Automatically qualify, teams 3-6 go into playoff for third promotion spot. Bottom 4 clubs are relegated)

Team GP Pts
1. Lincoln City 45 100
2. Cardiff City 45 91
3. Bolton Wanderers 45 75
4. Stockport County 45 74
5. Bradford City 45 74
6. Stevenage 45 72
7. Luton Town 45 71
8. Plymouth Argyle 45 70

20. Leyton Orient 45 51
21. Exeter City 45 49
22. Port Vale 45 42
23. Rotherham United 45 41
24. Northampton Town 45 35

Lincoln City and Cardiff have booked their tickets to the Championship for next season, and then there is a mess for the playoff spots behind them, with only Bolton assured of its spot in the playoff round.

At the bottom, Port Vale, Rotherham and Northampton have all been relegated. Either Exeter or Leyton Orient will join them in League 2 next season. Exeter needs a win and a Leyton Orient draw or loss, as Exter has the lead on goal differential.

Key matches (all at 8am on Saturday morning):
Bolton v. Luton
Exeter v. Bradford
Barnsley v. Stockport County
Northampton v. Plymouth Argyle
Stevenage v. Wigan Athletic
Leyton Orient v. Burton Albion

League Two
(Top 3 Automatically qualify, teams 4-7 go into playoff for fourth promotion spot. Bottom 2 clubs are relegated to National League)

Team GP Pts
1. MK Dons 45 85
2. Bromley 45 84
3. Cambridge United 45 81
4. Salford City 45 80
5. Notts County 45 79
6. Grimsby Town 45 77
7. Chesterfield 45 76
8. Swindon Town 45 75
9. Barnet 45 73

20. Tranmere Rovers 45 40
21. Newport County 45 40
22. Crawley Town 45 39
23. Harrogate Town 45 39
24. Barrow 45 36

Mk Dons and Bromley have secured their spots in League One for next season, but are still battling for the championship. Cambridge, Salford, and Notts County all can still claim the third automatic promotion spot, with Cambridge leading the way. Grimsby, Chesterfield, Swindon Town and Barnet all are still fighting for the last two playoff spots, with Grimsby and Chesterfield in control for now.

At the bottom of the table, Barrow are not officially relegated, but the best they can do is draw level on points with Crawley Town and Harrogate Town, and their goal differential is not good. Harrogate currently holds the other relegation spot, but there are three others who could fall if results don't go their way. Will be a wild last day in League Two, lots left to decide.

Key Matches (all on Saturday and start 9am our time):
Barrow v. Newport County
Crawley Town v. Salford City
Crewe Alexandria v. Cambridge United
Harrogate Town v. Barnet
Notts County v. Bristol Rovers
Swindon town v. Chesterfield
Tranmere Rovers v. Grimsby Town

Will be a wild final weekend in the EFL.

On we go in the relegation battle. Last weekend all four teams claimed points, so no real advantage was gained, other than the clubs at the bottom of the fight (see Spurs) losing more time to climb out of the bottom three. The wins by Spurs and West Ham did keep Leeds and Forest in the battle, as they are only a bed weekend of results of being right in the middle of the fight again.

Current Standings
Team. Matches Played. Points.
15. Leeds United 34 40
16. Nottingham Forest 34 39
17. West Ham 34 36
18. Spurs 34 34
19. Burnley 34 20
20. Wolves 34 17

Key Weekend Relegation Matches

Friday (today):

Leeds v. Burnley (2pm, USA Network, Elland Road)- A win today would go a long way in getting Leeds out of the relegation fight, as you think it will be hard for Spurs to get to 43 points. A home match against an already relegated Burnley side is just what the doctor ordered for the Whites. Elland Road should be jumping on a Friday night home match. Leeds are in good form, having gone 2-0-3 for 9 points from their last 5 matches.

Saturday:
Brentford v. West Ham (9am, USA Network, Gtech Community Stadium)--West Ham travel across London to the west side for a match with the Bees. Brentford are coming off a disappointing loss at Manchester United, having drawn their four matches before that, while the Hammers claimed a vital 3 points over Everton last weekend, and are 2-1-2 for 8 points in their last 5. Brentford are still in the hunt for European spots, so any hope of West Ham playing a team who is just looking forward to summer is out the bag, this will be a big game, and West Ham would likely be happy with a point on Saturday.

Wolverhampton v. Sunderland (9am, Peacock, Molineux)--Wolves are cooked, so watch this game at your own peril.

Sunday:
Aston Villa v. Tottenham Hotspur (1pm, USA Network, Villa Park)--Spurs will be hoping to surprise Aston Villa on Saturday, maybe catch them looking ahead to the second leg of their Europa League semifinal, when the Sours head to the midlands on Sunday evening. Villa still hold a Champions League position, so they will be keen for 3 points, and Spurs will be hoping to string victories together for the first time in 2026. Like West Ham, Spurs would probably be happy with a point from this match, depending on the West Ham result the day before.

Monday:
Chelsea v. Nottingham Forest (9am, USA Network, Stamford Bridge)--Forest travel to London for the rare Monday afternoon match, starting at 4pm London time, to square off with a Chelsea club who will be desperate for three points as they seek a Champions League position for next season. Chelsea have somehow managed to lose their last 5 EPL matches, while Forest have gone 3-0-2 for 11 points over their last 5. Forest would love nothing more than to claim three points so they can turn their full attention to the Europa League semifinals.

Enjoy the weekend.
