I do not ever question is love of playing the sport, but he just hasn't seemed to happy on any team since late in his OKC days.

KD is one of my favorite players ever, but he has to be one of the most sensitive athletes in recent memory and when I say recent, I'm saying the past 25 years. Struggling to think of someone who seemingly overthinks his situation/slights more than Kevin Durant.

The Chris Vernon show started about 25 minutes after the news broke. Vernon works for both the Grizzlies and for the Ringer (The Mismatch).

He believes it was about record as the team against good teams, with the last decent wina against the injury-riddled Mavs a while ago. He pointed out the team wasn't playing hard for him anymore.




Here's what I believe: I believe it was just a classic case of a team gradually tuning on an NBA coach that the main guys have had since they basically entered the league. I also don't think this year's team was that strong and was overachieving for most the year.

The roster he was coaching on a night-in and night-out basis just really wasn't that talented.

Ja was playing the role of Clipper's Kawhi, and rotating in and out of the lineup based on health. He hasn't played 7 consecutive games since March 3, 2023, the last game before his Denver Nightclub gun story on Instagram.

The trio of Bane, JJJ, and Ja hadn't played 6 consecutive games together since that night. The team has played 181 games since the Denver nightclub night, and their 3 best players have not played 6 consecutive games together.

The 15-man roster has 5 guys that were converted two-way guys from G-League, including the primary back up to Ja. A 6th guy was signed off of another team's G-League roster this season.

2 of the starters this year were rookies from the weakest NBA draft in a long time, including one guy who was a 2nd rounder and another who may be the slowest center in the league.

The backup to that center missed most of last season with an Achilles injury, will soon be having knee surgery and is out for the remainder of this season. The 3rd-string center is one of the bigger busts in recent NBA history (Marvin Bagley Jr), and couldn't get consistent minutes with the Wizards, nor with the Grizzlies on those rare occasions he is healthy.

The last two roster spots go to fine role players. Luke Kennard, who any team could have had this off-season, and Santi Aldama, a former 30th pick from a few years ago.


Yet, the team generally won the games they were supposed to win.

Unless there was some scandal behind the scenes, this makes zero sense.

The rumor is Ja didn't like the offense Jenkins ran.

Not sure I buy that since they replaced Jenkins with the architect of that offense.


I think that there was the normal GM-Coach tension, even if they never showed it out in public.

just seems like the kind of move you make at the all-star break or after the season. If you think you're going to lose in the first round to LA anyway, why bother changing coaches.

More than anything, it sends a message to your fans that you have no idea what you're doing
