Both things can be true. Ayton clearly touched his face and Chet still flipped and made it look worse that it was.

What exactly did he do that was objectionable? He got hit in the face. Any person that gets hit in the face is going to pull their face back away from that contact.

Flops are a real thing where there was no foul and someone acts like they got fouled to bait the refs. OKC does it a ton, and frankly LA was doing it a ton too tonight.

This particular play was not that.

You can flop with or without contact. That play was 100% a foul and LA has been cheating jump balls all post season, but Chet also made sure to sell it by acting like he got punched in the face.

Maybe the win win situation here is that we get a new rule that all foul calls are subject to a quick video review (in the background, like in NY or something) and if you embellish the call, the foul is immediately overturned and you get a technical instead.

Did nobody here watch Inside the NBA before the game? They had the head of referee development on and he talked about how they draw a line between flopping and embellishment.

Did he embellish? Maybe, maybe not. It isn't clear. He may have actually taken a finger to the eye, but maybe not. Every single player in the league pretends they are dying anytime they get hit in the head and neck area hoping for a flagrant. Dennis Schroeder did it in the early game when he got tapped on the throat and threw himself on the ground. That happens in every game, so that isn't an OKC specific thing.

All I'm saying is that Guitarsoup's post was dumb. His joke depended on the video being an actual flop, and it wasn't, so the joke failed. He knows ball, and he knows that it wasn't a flop. I don't know why he keeps pretending it was a flop.

One thing is clear. Chet is Charmin soft. If teams got as physical with him as they do with Victor, he would fold like a cheap lawn chair.

I watched Monty's interview and was extremely disappointed. Long-winded corporate speak while actually saying nothing. Monty is a close friend of one of our close family friends and I first met him back in HS and have talked to him a bunch of times over the years. Monty was always one of the best referees in the league, and I posted as much on here numerous times over the decades. Monty talked about how it is hard for officials to tell in real time what is a flop and what is an embellishment and admitted that they don't get it right all the time. Well, why don't they do something about it? They have the power to levy fines and technicals and they just refuse to do it. Under Monty's watch the NBA isn't enforcing their own rules that were agreed to by the owners and players.



The league reffing has gotten worse with how they allow and support the flopping or embellishments or however you want to term it. You can call it a flop or an embellishment or however you want to term it, but the category is still pretty much the same. Not all contact is a foul by the rule book, but what many players do is take minor contact that would not typically be a foul and embellish it to try to trick the refs.

Just like this play in game 2. Was there contact? Sure. Is it a flop? Absolutely. Maybe Monty calls that an embellishment, but Chet clearly didn't get hit so hard in the mouth that he was down and grabbing his mouth out of pain. He's flopping and acting and it is endemic and makes the game hard to watch.

Please put these guys away early tonight. Don't need another nailbiter.

No chance this happens, but they should have a flop official.

There is always 30+ seconds after a foul call where the ref tells the scorers table who it was on and everyone gets in position to play. Plenty of time for an official at the table to get a quick glance at a replay to judge if it was potentially a flop.

The timing should be very similar to how much time coaches have to challenge, so we're not talking about slowing down the game.
