Biyombo really is just 6 fouls.

Wish we would have tried to get Thomas Bryant instead.

Or grab Kalkbrenner in the 2nd. He's starting for Charlotte and putting up 9/8/1

He's still making a lot of rookie mistakes, but he's gonna be so good.

Wemby's handles.

Harper being there is wild.

Wemby games with a block streak in jeopardy. No way he makes it to the 4th without a 3rd quarter collapse.

Really, really need Kornet back. Just turns into a layup drill when Wemby is on the bench.

May need to sit Castle for a bit.

Castle's turnovers are starting to become an epidemic. He may get there, but I think it's pretty clear that he's best suited as your secondary playmaker alongside a more traditional PG.

Still don't have that block, but Harrison Barnes remembered how to shoot.

There was the block.

Wemby got that block.

Also Tre Jones just iced out Ice Trae. Jones hit two clutch FTs to go up 5 then pulled down the rebound when Trae missed his 9th three.

Trae 7-22 and 1-10.
Dyson 1-8.

Tre Jones 14p/7r/9a

Vic with 24 on 8 shots.

Off game for Victor. Only 24/15/4 with a block and a steal. 7-8 shooting, didn't take a three, 10-10 from the line.

Carter Bryant hit his first NBA shot and it was a three. Also a huge block.

Barnes found his shot. 6-7 and 4-5 from three.

Castle had 22/5/4 and caused a lot of havoc and drew a bunch of fouls, but had a lot of dumb turnovers, too.

Devin had some dumb turnovers, but 15p and 5 assists on 5-10 shooting.

And Dylan had 11/6/6 with only 1 turnover.

All Spurs positive or neutral in plus minus... EXCEPT

Keldon -2 on 10p 5r 1s on 4-6 2-3 shooting

and....

Biyumbo -14 with 3 fouls in 14 minutes.

Yep. He's playing out of position for now until Fox gets back.

That's insane. Especially since we were playing without our 2nd and 3rd best rebounders.

Spurs currently have the best point differential in the league. We are averaging +16.5 per game.

Victor almost outrebounded Toronto by himself.
Toronto- 19
Victor - 15

Utah tried to give it away, but pulled out the win against Phoenix. Phoenix loses, Utah wins and is now 2-1. They even suck at Tanking.

This is what should scare the rest of the league. This was a quiet game for him, and he put up All-Star numbers.

If they can stay cold for like 2 more weeks the odds of the wheels coming off in Atlanta are high. Best case scenario for us was for them to start the season really slow and for Trae to shoot like crap doing it. Demoralizing way for them to lose and he's going to start thinking about all the dollars he's losing the longer the struggles to shoot.

Meh, he's a fish out of water with Fox out. I can't wait to see what he moves like this season when he has a real PG to distribute to him. The Fox/Castle/Harper game is going to be so exhausting for other teams.

First of all, it's a long season and we're 4 games in. Injuries can always derail a season (knock on wood) and we'll definitely go through a slump at some point. That's just how basketball works for young teams that are learning how to win.

However…. If we can cut down on the turnovers (Fox will help with this), we have a chance to be really good.

The Spurs rank offensively:
6th in EFG%
4th in FTA Rate
4th in OREB%
27th in TOV%

Defensively:
3rd in Opp EFG%
13th in Opp FTA Rate
3rd in Opp OREB%
22nd in Opp TOV%

Pretty elite numbers outside of how often we turn the ball over. It would be nice to force more turnovers, but we're able to play such sound defense and we rebound at such a high rate, that we don't have to gamble in passing lanes.

Yeah, when you look at it, Steph Castle is the reason our TO% is so high. He leads the league in TO right now.

Teams are running the full court press at an unprecedented rate and Castle is also making the mistakes you would expect from a 20yo running the point.

Harper is averaging just 3.8 TO/100 possessions, which is very good. Steph Curry is at 3.4. SGA is 3.5. Joker is 4.4.

Castle will get better as the season evolves and he continues to grow (and has basically no primary playmaker duties.) That Harper is already doing great is fantastic.

------------

Another interesting thing is that teams across the NBA are pressing and trapping at a really high rate. If this becomes the new thing... having quickness like Fox and strength in Castle/Harper to get out of it is a huge plus for us. Also, if we start doing it too, we can press/trap without tiring Harper and Fox, because we have Bryant, Castle, Sochan, Julian, Devin out there to work it. I'm feeling really good about that. Once we get healthy, that is.

Have you seen anything written yet explaining why teams are pressing and trapping more often this year?

Conceptually I'm in favor of it because it's stupid to concede to the other team that they can bring the ball up leisurely and get into their offense without being harassed by the defense. However, it's an 82 game season and a LONG playoff grind so I kind of get the perspective that you save energy where you can and that means less aggressive defense like presses and traps.

It seems like defenses can be a little more aggressive and get away with more contact during a press that you can't get away with in the half court. Maybe teams are focusing more on conditioning and these players just have extra gas so where better to use it than defense?

Its probably as simple as the two teams in the finals last year ran this type of pressure a lot.
