Another easy victory. These last few games are more like all star games for the Spurs. Guys are having fun.

Just gotta go 4-4 for 60 now. Incredible season.

We also clinched #2.

The next step in his game. His first two years sucked because he made the right pass but our bad shooting never rewarded him with an assist. That has changed, and he has a real chance to start putting up stupid numbers.

The direction of the Spurs off-season/draft will also be determined by what happens in the playoffs. I am pretty sure there will be a much different approach if they win it all vs. If they lose a series.

I'm pretty sure Kornet is injured. He does not look like the same player he was at the beginning of the season. I feel like his rebounding fell off a cliff. He can't hold onto anything. I think we should rest him the rest of the season.

I don't know, even if we lose on the 2nd round to LAL, how much of a knee jerk reaction would we expect? Maybe if one of our core guys turns out to be a huge liability (like Giddey 3 years ago) we'd make a change but I can't see the FO deciding to make big decisions about personnel after only one playoff run. The chemistry is too good, and there is a real advantage to letting the guys grow up together and learn to win together.

Maybe after 3 years of not getting to the finals you start to have doubts about the roster, but I think we're playing with house money this year. In October no one expected a 60 win season, so I think we get a chance to find out how this team can adapt to playoff intensity and physicality this year, and if they come up short, they now know what they need to work on to come back next year and take the next step.

Plus, at this point our bench includes the following:

Keldon - likely 6th MOY winner and the heart of the team

Dylan - a top 3 ROY candidate shooting 60% over the past 2 months

Kornet - one of the top defensive backup centers and a great teammate

Bryant - a ferocious defensive wing with a need for more playing time to develop

Barnes - great role player and teammate

The only guy you can argue we could replace is Barnes, but I don't see much upside as it seems unlikely to get an immediate contributor that can match what Barnes gives us.
All I do is Nguyen

There has been alot of talk about awards lately. MVP, 6MOY etc.
First of all, if the Spurs win a ring, I wouldn't care if they didn't win any awards. The championship is more important than any award and I think the team believes that as well.

Having said that, if Mitch Johnson doesn't win Coach of the Year, it would be the biggest snub in my opinion. For a first yea t coach to take the team from the lottery to the second best record in the league is incredible. The team predicted by most to be a play in team at best.
He deserves it.

I would vote for Mitch, but I think the argument for Mazulla is really good as well. No Tatum. Front office let Kornet and Hortford walk. They had to trade Kristaps and Jrue for essentially Vooch and a brief rental of Simons.

I think Mitch deserves it, but I wouldn't be mad at Mazulla.

Keldon losing the 6MOY to Jaime Jacquez would be nasty. Wemby not getting a unanimous DPOY is unfathomable.

I can see an argument for Bickerstaff also, he got 2nd last year and now has Detroit as the one seed running back the same team. Their rise to the top has been impressive because unlike us, they really haven't hit in the draft (Holland, Thompson, Ivey) except for Cunningham and Duren but Bickerstaff took what was there and molded it into something that could win.

Sometimes I look at their roster and wonder how in the world they have won so much this year. It was even more glaring when we played them about a month ago and I saw how dependent they are on Cade. We can win with 7 or 8 different guys leading us in scoring, they do not have that kind of depth at all.

Yeah, I think he is firmly 3rd, but Mitch transforming this team and Mazz leading the Celtics to the 4th best record in the NBA without Tatum, Jrue, Kristaps really clears.

Detroit is a great example of the importance of chemistry and defense. They dominate the paint, are physical up and down the lineup and have played together a few years and took several steps up (44 wins last year and cleared the play-in by 3 games). Really impressive to grow all these players together and get everyone to buy into the system, but I am more impressed by Mitch (going to finish 20+ games over the projection) and Mazz.

I don't disagree about Mazzula and Mitch, just wanted to add in Bickerstaff because I think he will get some consideration as well.

The MVP situation is interesting as well, for the first time all year yesterday I sensed the Spurs might have played Wemby a bit extra and I think he also forced a few things trying to pump his scoring numbers a bit. I think they know that a couple of 40/15/5 games down the stretch would leave a strong final impression on voters. I think Wemby deserves it regardless of stuff like that but it'll be interesting to watch the last 8 games and see if they try to let Wemby chase the MVP award by feeding him more.

I understand Mazzula but I don't think he deserves it more than Mitch. He's already a championship coach that just won 61 games last year. Tatum of course was a big loss but they let the other players go because they already had a plan to replace them. It doesn't hurt that they play almost 2/3 of their games in the East.

Mitch is a first year coach whose team won 30 games last year and he has the 2nd best record in the league with a chance at the best record.

It's a good debate but nobody is going to change my mind on this one.

Yaxel may be playing himself into the Top 10. He is just destroying Tennessee.

I am not sure I see him as a positional fit for most of the top ten teams.

I think Golden State is probably the earliest he goes at 11.

Miami next to Bam if you make Bam play center works, but I think Bam wants to be a PF and his defense is best out away from the rim.

I think Charlotte or OKC would take him, too.

Unless Atlanta completely freefalls, Yaxel certainly goes before we pick.

His age will discourage alot of the teams picking ahead of us but probably not enough.
My hope is that the Hawks drop into the play-in and get knocked out of the playoffs.
For the next few weeks, I'll be cheering for the 76ers, Magic, Hornets and Heat!

Where are they predicting Reed from UConn to get picked? I haven't followed UConn this year but that kid has been a monster in the tournament

Raptors about to beat the Magic to go get further ahead of Atlanta.

Big game is Thunder/Knicks. It's close in the 1st.

If the knicks win we keep playing for the 1. If okc wins I bet start resting some guys who have time available or aren't in contention for awards.
Guitarsoup

I think we keep playing for the 1 regardless.

They play the Pistons tomorrow. Then the Lakers twice in three games, then the Clippers, Nuggets and Suns. Pretty brutal schedule.

All but one team are playing for playoff position.

On Allen Graves, here's a curated video of highlights with no commentary.

Big takeaway from me is that his shot is slow and he doesn't feel athletic. Do we think he is a stronger SloMo? Most of his defense is a zone rim protector and I didn't see anything that would give me hope on his ability to defend on the perimeter at the next level, which a PF would need to do. He does has some nice touch in the paint and is doing the same little baby hook that Keldon added. His three drops nicely, but again it is super slow.

I would be worried he is just too slow and unathletic.

Agreed. Not all of these teams are going to be a bunch of *****es about playing OKC.

Two big games happening:

Celtics vs Hawks

76ers vs Heat

If Celtics and 76ers win, the Hawks will drop back to the play-in by half a game.

Another night. Another game with SGA shooting as many FTs as other team. Disgusting.

As I watch this he falls down OT shooting a three with shot clock running out and gets to the line for three. Detroit challenges, call stands after a 10 second explanation from the ref.

He gets away with so much bull***** Whether it's his leg kick "follow thru" or his incredibly blatant push offs that rarely get called(it did a couple times tonight tho), or the way he hooks defenders with his off arm which usually gets a foul called on the defender, makes me really hate the way he plays . Which sucks, bc he is really damn talented otherwise. But I just can't stand that crap
