Yep. MLB managers have to be concerned about overuse and injury prevention.

Did anyone actually see Framber on the bench yesterday? Watching on the tube, I don't recall having seen him like I ordinarily do.

I'm sure he got his work in (free lunch, and dinner) then went home.

so what does the 2026 rotation look like...

if Arrighetti's injury is serious?

HB, Javier, and ?
Its looking like a challenge. Luis is another option but hard to rely on two guys starting 30+ times coming off TJ. I'd guess we shop in the middle market. I still think Dustin May's talent is too high and would love to see what our coaches could do with his stuff.

I love the idea of Dustin May

What happened to Jake ?

Dana needs to overhaul the S&C staff, this is ridiculous. The entire year

Foul ball off the shin

Nothing to do with S&C

Yeah, blame Cintron for that one

Dubon is 3-5 lifetime against Rodon. He didn't play last night, so he's rested.

Therefore I expect that this will be his day off.

Why does there always have to immediately be someone to blame? Foul balls off shins happen. What would the S&C staff have to do with that anyway? If they make the guy stronger, foul balls of shins are only going to hurt more. You think if we get Black Death Larry Jackson in there he's going to make shins tougher? Maybe we are looking for a Muy Thai guy that will beat them with bamboo sticks?

If it's part of your process that you have to point the finger, let's figure out if he was wearing a shin guard when it happened. It might be his own damn fault. Or more than likely it was just bad luck.

See ya in 2027 Spencer

This comes as no surprise.

There's a reason why the Astros rarely sign pitchers to long term deals. The "tweaks" they make to these guys often come with maxing out spin rates which puts a tremendous amount of pressure on their arms. Some more than others.

Spencer had little to no chance of sniffing the big leagues without making big adjustments. It comes with a risk unfortunately.

And no, the Astros aren't the only team doing this.

That said - it's possible this turns out to be no big deal. We'll see.

And the Astros won't stop unless those other teams stop too. None of these teams are really going to stop when they can bring in cheap guys with lots of upside, tweak them, get the max out of them until they get injured, and then do it all over again with someone else as long as the overall team pitching numbers are really good.

It really sucks, but it's earned both player and coach lots of money and has helped a lot of guys achieve a life long dream of playing MLB ball.

It's something I wonder if will become a point of hang up at the next MLBPA and MLB team CBA negotiations.

I missed the Jake incident. Was he hurt, removed from the game, amputated... or all rampant speculation?

His leg blew straight off his body! It was wild!

No - he fouled a ball off his right leg - looked like either shin or top of foot. He finished the AB, but was pulled from the game in the 5th inning. I'm guessing we'll find out more Friday.

Part of a minor league promotion. All fans who showed up got to take one swat with a baton at Meyers' shin. Sugar Land made a ton of money off the promotion, but Meyers is lost for the year.

He stayed in the game for another AB after it so I don't think it's anything serious.

Yep. I've heard some speculate why players agree to it.

Spencer Arrighetti is a good example. He had very little chance at the big leagues without making those changes.

IIRC he finished the AB and got another AB before being pulled.

I'm guessing he's probably alright

It's funny looking at these highlights. A lot of these complexes look like the ones my son plays on for high school tournaments.

Also as a sidenote.. after a hiatus I've gotten my ass back in shape and will be playing competitive baseball again for the first time on Sunday.

12 game season. Will my batting average be higher or lower than Jose Abreu's average as an Astro?

You first have to surpass Grae Kessinger's 2024 average before you can take on the Everest of accomplishment that is Astro Jose Abreu.

And then you look at their pay at that level versus their days in MLB and you begin to understand why pitchers risk their elbows by maxing out everything for a shot at a couple of years in The Show.

Jim Bouton said it best, that pitchers would take a pill to take 5 years off their life to win 20 games. I remember 30 years ago you had only a few people who threw 95. Now it's a standard to pitch in MLB. And every pitch is maximum effort, hence so many injuries.

I can't tell if that hit right above his right knee or the inside of his left knee. Either way looks like a stinger that will be sore for a few days.

We all know the why. Guys are throwing the ball in ways that the body cannot handle long term. They're doing at a much younger age. And the arm care for a lot of youth just isn't there.

Knowing that, there is no easy solution. Hitters are good. Pitchers can beat hitters more often when they throw hard or with lots of spin. Those cause injuries. No one is going to stop chasing the best stuff because otherwise you end up in double until you're 27 then asked to not come back.
