I refuse to believe there's a worse manager than Joe Espada in professional baseball

Sanchez versus a lefty for the sake of consistency?

The Texans offense still sucks and somehow it looks like the Kurt Warner Rams next to this walking corpse of an Astros lineup.

Don't worry… once we get people healthy and Yordan is back, this offense will be great

At least that's what we were told when we complained before

can the Astros hold on?

need the Cardinals to show up in Seattle this week

Framber is just playing with fire every start now with that 93 mph "changeup" that keeps drifting middle-middle. At this point he's only successful due to the statistical advantage pitchers have in baseball because even the most average hitters are putting that garbage over the fence
W

Astros are 19-21 vs. the West division

with the final 12 games of the season vs. the West

wish the Rangers & Mariners had some games left against one other...but they don't

We are probably finishing 9-9. No science behind that prediction… just a gut feeling.
W

the Rangers have the Brewers and Mets next

so they are going to take some losses

the Royals have the Phillies, Blue Jays, and Mariners coming up

so the Astros should be able to slip into the postseason with 87 wins -- maybe just 86

That seems like a best case prediction the way our offense is currently playing and with our pitching tanking.

1-2 vs Toronto
2-1 vs Atlanta
2-1 vs Texas
1-2 vs Seattle
3-3 against A's and Angels to finish

My unscientific prediction

Take 1 from Seattle and Arlington then sweep A's and Angels like we should (but rarely do) we will be fine.

0% chance of this happening. We are more likely to sweep Texas or Seattle than either the A's or Angels, for reasons I still have been unable to figure out

This team won't sweep one of the A's or Angels, much less two.

We're more likely to get swept three times in this final stretch than sweep anybody once

I just don't feel good about this team. I think we squeak by and get into the playoffs, but nothing feels "right" about this squad. Honestly, it feels like we are riding the wave and getting by based on a weak division and program success.

A deep postseason run would be a big surprise. The loss of Parades and Hader has broke this team even as players started getting back from injuries. This club played the best baseball in MLB fielding multiple positions with AAAA players and then when the Calvary was supposed to arrive we've pretty much sucked.
W

with 3 weeks to go in the season...

the stats tell the tale offensively:

17th in HR
20th in doubles
25th in walks
25th in steals

the Astros don't slug...don't walk...don't steal

it will be risky for Dana to just "run it back" with the same position player group next year
W
How long do you want to ignore this user?
no Astro hitter has reached 50 x-base hits yet

Altuve leads the team with 47 xbh
W
How long do you want to ignore this user?
the championship team 3 years ago had 4 players go over 50 xbh:

68 - Yordan
67 - Altuve
61 - Bregman
59 - Tucker

slugging is important

Not stranding risp is important too and we are also terrible at that.

So essentially 3 divisions are locked up
AL Central, NL East, NL Central
The other 3 are coming down to the wire.

The NL playoff teams are essentially set barring a total collapse. Only thing that can really change is seeding order and Padres/Dodgers for the West.

AL has 4 spots locked in and the other two are going to be winner of the west, and wild card (likely 2nd in west or 2nd in central)

Should be an interesting/stress inducing 3 weeks

I'd say that's pretty damning when it comes to plate approach.. The lack of walks and slug is killer. I suspect we'd be closer to middling if Yordan and Paredes played the whole season together.

Injuries killed us. Yordan, Paredes, and JP would have all gone over 50. I wonder if part of the RISP problem is we didn't have anyone pitchers feared, so if they made a mistake, it'd be a single instead of a homer, so pitchers could afford to get more aggressive.
W
How long do you want to ignore this user?
speaking of the NL East...

the Phillies (83-60) have played 143 games

Schwarber has played in 143 games. Turner in 140 games.

where is the load management? What happened to the scheduled off days?

Given the injuries this year, I wonder what a composite total at each position is for the year.

C - 119 wRC+ / 52 XBH
1B - 95 / 48
2B - 81 / 40
3B - 122 / 44
SS - 128 / 50
LF - 85 / 36
CF - 96 / 33
RF - 89 / 38
DH - 88 / 47

Only 2 spots have reached 50 XBH. Shockingly, only 3 positions have been above average (well above).

The majority of the issue = Yainer, Walker, Cam, and Doobie. Those 4 cannot be below average and have over 1900 PA combined.
Farmer1906
How long do you want to ignore this user?
As easy as it is to blame those 4 I mentioned, pretty much everyone is letting us down right now.

Last 30 Games (wRC+):

Hotter than the Sun (200+)
  • Alavrez - 231
Damn Good (120+)
  • Caratini - 121
Average (90-110)
  • Walker - 110
  • Pena - 103
  • Sanchez - 99
  • Urias - 95
  • Correa - 92
Bad (50-80)
  • McCormick - 79
  • Diaz - 69
  • Altuve - 66
  • Dubon - 60
  • Smith - 54
Colder than Hoth(<20)
  • Trammell - 14
  • Melton - -24

As bad as Diaz has been lately, seeing Altuve below him over the last 30 is a Torbush level wow moment.
