And they blow it in the bottom half

Yepp. Trout had a chance to blow it open and he struck out looking. Then M's take the lead again on a solo shot

All the better that we kept our side of the bargain.

At least we won too .. we've got to take these next 2 with HB and Framber on the bump

Yankees are putting the Red Sox back on the playoff bubble as well
W
How long do you want to ignore this user?
the Mariners are 46-27 at home

with 8 home games remaining

it will be very tough for the Astros to win the division

the 'stros must have 2 or 3 sweeps

up to the minute...

in the loss column:

67 - Red Sox
68 - Astros, Mariners
70 - Rangers
71 - Guardians

3 of the 5 will make it

Altuve throwing his weight at the owners and Players' Union:

"I'm gonna get to 3,000 hits one way or the other, you sons of *****es!

No lockout or we bring back the trash cans!"

If we eventually go back to rebuild, I'm totally content letting Altuve play as long as he wants to so he hits 3k

He's not going to make it. COVID cost him 110 games. The injuries in '19 and '23 cost his another 110. That's 1.5 prime seasons and close to 250 hits. With 2027 being almost assuredly a work stoppage and a long one, he could lose another 100 plus hits.

That's a devastating amount. He would need to get the equivalent of 3350 hits just to make 3000. That's like 9th overall in MLB.

Beat me to it. He's on the bench for sure.

going back to Altuve...

yes, the goal was to reach 2,400 by the end of the season. He will come up a little short.

his 3,000-hit fate may be tied to what the Astros do with Yordan after the 2028 season

both of them cannot DH -- but they will both need to by then

Elder has been really good in his last 4 starts. Hope we can change that today.

Braves throw a RHP so Sanchez in RF and Cole plays LF. Heck you could even put Trammell in CF and with Yordan at DH go LHH heavy and still have Vic in your pocket. Jose will be at 2B and you hope last night was the start of his typical Jose goes lava level hot streak.

JP
Yordan
Jose
CC
Sanchez
Walker
Diaz
Cole
Trammell/Jake

And pray that last night wasn't the random fluke one good game a week we have seen the last month and a half.

None of the main core should be getting days off anymore. It's 14 more. You play your best/hottest 9 every night.
W

along those lines...

for the folks that like the Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) metric...

Altuve is -5 DRS at second base

Altuve is -9 in left field

Yordan is -1 in left field

----

interesting...the Astros are second to last (29th) in MLB in pitching staff DRS at -15

bad fielding pitchers...led by Framber's -5 DRS

No reason to expect otherwise until proven otherwise. They just 11-0'd the Rangers in the midst of losing all four other games sandwiched around it.

Only one way to find out. Play the game today and see. But yeah, we have seen this a lot. Bust out one game and the next 4 basically get no hit, or get 10 singles and 2 runs. It's a Jeckyl and Hyde offense.

Assuming Pena continues his current play and leaves for a team that will pay for a superstar contract we could give Altuve a run at shortstop for the lols.

Down to -6 DRS at 2nd. But as to your point he's started more games at 2nd than in LF and has hurt us more in LF than 2nd. Overall dWAR at -2.0.

Great to see him get a couple of hits yesterday.

I have no idea why this one game did it for me, but I woke up today feeling way more optimistic about the Stros than I have felt in over a month.

If we go 10-4 the rest of the way and make it, they will build a damn statue of him outside of the park.

Don't know about the rest of you but my thumb is going to get a workout starting at 6:30 from flipping between the Astros, Aggies, and even the LSU/Florida game (gotta see how "good" LSU really is after beating a crap Clemson team and mauling Louisiana Tech 23-7.)
