Having watched Correa in person for ~60 games over the past 3 years, I am not sure that this is a great deal for the Astros. The guy who left 4 years ago is not the guy who is coming back.

Unconfirmed report is that the Twins cheapskate owners agreed to pay $50 million of Correa's salary. If you value 1.0 WAR at roughly $8 million, Correa needs to produce slightly over 6.0 WAR over the next 3+ years to make this a break even deal on value for salary. I think that is a plus/minus proposition: he is at 0.1 bWAR for the year.

Moving to third will help his defensive rating stats some.

This year he's down but he's always seemed to have good and bad years, but mostly good.

Still only 30, so I think getting a cumulative WAR of 6 over three seasons is doable

For me...I understand this.

I know he's not the player that left and I'm OK with that for a couple reasons.

A) He's an upgrade over whatever AAA scrub he's pushing out of our lineup.
B) He's a clubhouse leader and a DAWG
C) It's a huge moral boosting injection into the org. On-field, in the clubhouse, with the fans.

The dog days of summer have not been good to the 2025 Astros and this helps spark us for a stretch run. And Carlos too. Maybe he gets rejuvenated and locked in now that he's playing for a competitor.

Astros have a ton of movement to occur with pitching staff, given who is nearing return. Presumably some will be sent down but can't help but thinking we may see another trade outside of the pursuit of Cease.

He's also going to be plugged into a better lineup than in MIN (when the big dogs come back, that is). Perhaps he will benefit offensively, especially when we get everybody healthy next year. Gotta stay healthy though.
