A mound visit up 6-0 with 2 outs left to close the game out

That's interesting

June was the worst thing that could've happened. We should've been sellers at the deadline.

The only reason I don't think it's worth sweating buying is that there was virtually nothing of value given up and multi-year control contracts gotten in return.

That said this team is terrible and just about cooked regardless.

Absolutely right. The signs were there earlier in the season, but the lucky wins with a AAAA lineup and the injuries made people want to believe.

This team doesn't work without Paredes, Altuve, or Walker hitting.

I just caught the end of the game on the radio.

Pena was named the player of the game and he was 2-4 with a single and a walk.

So yeah...Real barn burner.

I remember reading on here that Crane watches the games closely. He's gotta be losing his mind right now.

All these negative nellies in here.

We still control our destiny. Read that again -- "We still control our destiny."

The worst-case scenario after tonight is that we are tied for 1st -- with 15 games left.

In 2023, we lost 4 out of our last 6 series -- including a sweep at home by the Royals in late September. We clawed back, won the AL West and almost won the ALCS.

In addition, in 2023 -- Arlington like the current Astros blew the 5-game division lead they had in mid-July. Arlington ended up getting into the playoffs -- and we all know how that ended.

Things don't look great, but not all is lost!

The two upcoming series against the Rangers and Mariners (both at home) are going to be huge! Astros need to win both of those series.

Rangers have been hot -- 15-5 over their last 20 and they've won 5 out of their last 6. They are bound to cool.

Seattle is 10-10 in their last 20-- but they've won 5 in a row. They may be hot for another few games, but hopefully cool by the time we get to them.

The Astros -- through all our hemming and hawing -- they're also 10-10 over the last 20.

With all the injuries, this wasn't going to be easy. I think our hot streak is about to start. I think we just ran into a buzzsaw with Gausman today.

A complete game shut out? Yeah I know it's taboo to say teams have quit trying but if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck…

Anyone that comes back with some "gotcha" nonsense about that is a fool, and I was even skeptical and expecting a regression while seemingly everyone was celebrating the sweep in LA like it was really that big of a deal. The AL was too wide open to become sellers and give up.

Let's set the stage for this afternoon's game:

- A tight pennant race
- A small lead in the standings
- A mostly healthy roster
- A big game against a strong team
- Every reason to come out & "play ball"

What did we get:

- Two measly singles
- A total of two runners in scoring position
- No runs
- Lifeless, pathetic effort
- They got spanked

The players looked to me like they've already checked out and are packing their lockers up. Absolutely zero fire.

Wrigley tour today.
Rays/Cubs tomorrow.
A&M/ND Saturday.

First time here. Wrigley is a little slice of heaven on earth and probably kicked Petco down to second in my list. This place is wonderful.

There were people suggesting we at least listen to offers for Framber and they were shouted down.

still feel okay about the Astros making the playoffs as a wildcard (i.e. finishing ahead of the Rangers)

don't feel good about the division (i.e. finishing ahead of the Mariners)

the Rangers are 30-42 on the road...and have 3 road series left at the Mets, Astros, and Guardians

whereas the Mariners will probably feast at home vs. the Angels and Rockies. And the Dodgers may not have anything to play for the final weekend

It appears your plane ride was more productive than the Astros offense.

I'm glad to have missed the game today. Got a couple of score updates when I landed and saw the final when we were getting into our uber to the hotel.

Then I saw the box score and yikes

I'm watching the Mets-Phillies game. Mets jumped out front 4-0 after the top of the first. Phillies have chipped & chipped away. Now Phillies are up 6-4 in the bottom of the 6th.

Why can't we have nice things?

Because that would mean the Astros could actually score runs.

even if the Astros win 2 of 3 vs. the Mariners next week...

I don't think that's going to be enough to hold them off

I'm certainly not a phillies fan.

But trailing 4-0 after the top of the first, they played up to the level of their professionalism.

The Astros didn't do that today nor have they done that with any regularity.

I found myself a little jealous for a team that shows some "fight".
