He was the first baseball player I remember watching (I'm 55) that looked like he could have easily played TE or DE in the NFL...6'5" and about 230-240, which was damn near OL size in the late '70s. A great combination of power and average for several years, and a tremendous defensive RF. Could run pretty well in his early years , too (three years of 10+ triples and a few years of 20 SB).

He gunned down two runners during the '79 All-Star Game that I'm not sure anyone else at the time could have gotten.

At least he lived long enough to get the HoF call, so he had that memory toward the end.
