They can sign him all they want from a $$ standpoint. Its no object to them.

But as a competitive player? Hes not the player he was. His skills are declining, and his health is declining.

That would be a bad and expensive signing. If I were the Dodgers I would want a lot of $$ back, or I am not giving up anything in return.

Kind of sounds like Walker doesnt it?

Wonder who we'll be giving up for Dono. Hopefully Walker is part of the package.

Is Donovan at least a "pesky" at bat?

Works counts, low strikeouts, high contact rate that can put the ball in play or get a sac fly, high obp?

While I'd like power, we are also missing just a consistent and tough hard bat.

Helps that he's a lefty, but on the surface he's not someone with glamorous stats

LH bat, plays a position where we don't want Altuve to be our first option, doesn't strike out a lot. Sounds like the kind of hitters we used to prize.

Donovan is closer to an Uncle Mike add, which I am all for. Moat people see the low power profile and think top of the order, whereas I think 5 hole behind Alvarez, Altuve, and Paredes who wiñl get on base a lot.

I think of him the same. A guy you don't want to face with RISP, because he won't be an easy out. Good luck pitching around those other guys and then trying to keep him from advancing the runners.

If Meyers keeps hitting .280+ from the 7-8 spot, that is fine. He and Smith/Sanchez can set the table for Pena and Yordan. Then we just send Diaz up and tell him he is getting fined $500 for every swing. If he strikes out looking on 3 pitches, it is at least better than hitting into a DP. But he will probably lead the league in walks for the first few weeks until the pitchers figure out he just isn't going to swing the bat.

You guys also seriously undervalue how hard his job was last year having to game plan and maneuver all the moving pieces in the rotation last year. When did that leave time for working on stuff at the plate? I hated watching him at the plate last season too, but there is a reason historically catchers have been some of the worst hitters on the team…

I hope he takes this offseason to work on pitch recognition like Pena clearly did.

Praise Jesus if he can make that a reality! That was my biggest pet peeve in 2024 and 2025 with this team. Not approaching ABs aware of the situation and changing approaches to fit the pitcher and the game situation.

Me too. I would also like to see him work on hitting oppo when he is being pitched consistently outside. He needs to be better at recognizing pitches, but also needs to be willing to hit it where it is pitched.
