- Priority remains starting pitching, either by trade or free agent.
- Alvarez and Paredes will be "full go" to start season.
- Eric Velazquez promoted to head trainer.

I am not saying the Marlins would do it, but IF they were, you could eat a substantial part of Walker's deal and still net a positive result if you got Cabrera. He is cheap with 3 years of control and gets you a much needed SP without having to spend in FA. Plus, you would still theoretically have prospect capital to trade for a second arm.

This scenario could be part of an approach of getting two arms without blowing all your CBT space.

Alternatively, you do something like this, use prospects to trade for Donovan, and then spend your CBT space on a FA arm. This would actually probably be my preferred angle.

Regarding free agents with qualifying offers, Dana Brown said: "It's always tough when you're going out on the free agent market. We really don't like losing draft picks because that's the bloodline of the organization, that's the future. If we could avoid that, we'll try."
