So just to be clear, Cintron is only responsible for the bad things. And who's in the lineup should have no impact on outcomes. It's the hitting coach's job to make anyone succeed. Especially a hitting coach that has produced the best offense in baseball and won a World Series. Is that correct?
And so we chase pitches? So do the Phillies and Blue Jays. I think someone has already pointed out that there's not really a strong correlation between taking pitches and scoring more runs.
Most of this is tongue-in-cheek and just my way of pointing out that replacing Cintron does not guarantee better offensive results. What will, however, is a healthy lineup. If we can avoid the rash of injuries we had this past season, the Astros could hire me and we'd see offensive improvement.
Remember, the Rangers fired their hitting coach in May. How'd that work for them?
This is the same argument that amounts to a chicken vs egg discussion. Was our offense in 2017-2022 elite because Cintron was coaching it? Or was it because we had guys like Springer, Tucker, Bregman, Correa, Brantley, Yuli, etc. hitting in it instead of the scrubs we do now. If he can't be held accountable for us sucking now because we lost all those guys, then why does he get credit for 2017-2002 when it was because of the elite hitters?
Bottom line, I am not sure it makes a huge difference who the hitting coach is either. But after watching our 2024 and 2025 offenses flail at pitches with no clue what they are swinging at, when half of Texags can predict the pitch type and location for Yainer's next 3 pitch K, I am ready to see how much of a difference it can make.
