the Phillies...what a disappointing season if they don't come back and sweep the Dodgers

4th highest payroll in MLB...and an old team will be another year older in 2026

2023 was their year -- and they missed it

I see folks getting non-tendered -- Chas, Luis and maybe Urias. Dubie is getting pricey for what he brings.

and for what Dubie doesn't bring

put him down for another 100 starts and 400 plate appearances in 2026

despite finishing 2025 with .644 OPS and OPS+ of 78

He was 3 for 4 last night. I'm going to catch him and the 3 Aggies playing over the next month.

AFL is cheap and fun if anyone finds themselves out here between now and min November.

The Astros go up 2-0 on the Dodgers with a second straight walkoff in the strike-shortened playoff series. Imagine going up 2-0 with a pair of walkoffs and then blowing the series.
Shoutout to a demonic looking Junction Jack in this clip.
Game went 11 innings, had 18 hits, and 1 run.

And that's if it hasn't killed us all by then. There's some pretty crazy research papers out there where the LLM providers did experiments and found that their models would attempt to blackmail and even murder to avoid being shut down (provided they were given control over the right systems).

Plenty of research out there showing that they shouldn't be trusted even to give accurate and true information to simple requests. Googles AI told me that ZZTop didn't play a millenium eve concert in Houston. I still have the tshirt from attending in my closet. And that is with no motive to lie about it. It will only get worse as we put them in control of more things. But I would take an AI ump 100 times out of 100 over the idiots we have calling balls and strikes right now.

Grok knew.

Yes, ZZ Top performed at a Millennium Eve concert in Houston on December 31, 1999, as part of their XXX Tour. They shared the bill with Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Compaq Center (also known as The Summit), where the event was billed as the "2000 New Years Party." This show marked a major millennium celebration, with setlists including classics like "Sharp Dressed Man" and "La Grange." Attendees later recalled it as an exciting way to ring in the new millennium without any Y2K issues.

the 1981 NLDS...

the Astros only scored 6 runs in the 5 games -- lucky the series made it to 5 games

Dave Stewart was the losing Dodger pitcher in games one and two. Five years later he became a starting pitcher for Oakland and had four 20-win seasons for the A's. Quite a career turnaround

won a title with 3 different teams...Dodgers (1981), A's (1989), and Blue Jays (1993)

Honestly, Skynyrd put on a better show that night than ZZTop. ZZTop's show we went to in 1994 in Detroit was a much better show.

I just got hired to edit a book by an SEM in organizational risk about AI usage particularly in transportation industries. The # of "fatality-causing glitches" some of these companies are willing to live with to cut costs are pretty horrifying.

Yep, when there's money to be made, lives are just a number. Reminds me of how the TXDOT handled fatalities on dangerous roads. They wouldn't do anything to fix the roads until enough people died and they had to pay out money to the families. Back when I was in school, a good friend of mine got killed in a head on crash on Hwy6 between college station and Hempstead, back when it was a four lane road separated by a double yellow line and the speed limit was 70mph through there (you were inches away from 18 wheelers going the opposite direction with no physical barrier). It's a miracle more people didn't die on that road, and it probably took another 5 years before they did something to address the problem.

Always gonna be profits over people.

I'm not an Espada fan but had the Astros just had average luck on the injury front they're probably a 94-95 win team. I get it.

It's going to be really interesting to see what changes they do make - from the front office, coaching staff and roster.

I get it... but from an uniformed view it really looked like he lost the locker room after the framber ordeal. But I could be way off
Im looking for Ray Finkle.... and a clean pair of shorts. Im just a very big Finkle fan. This is my Graceland, sir.

The Framber thing had very little to do with the stretch run (the actual incident, not his performace). The guys were exhausted physically and mentally.

Also - I see lots of posters on here saying Joe handled it poorly. Did I miss details that came out? Or are people just assuming? Genuinely checking because I'm curious

I personally didn't think Crane would bring Joe back just because he hates losing and I thought he would want a new face in the manager office. But I can see the reasoning why he's sticking with him.

IMHO Framber should have been suspended. He assaulted his teammate. What he did was no accident and he should have paid a price for that.

Maybe he did. If so it wasn't obvious. I think Joe should have suspended him. The team has always said the manager controls the lineup card.

In fairness, I don't think it's Joe's call to suspend or not suspend. I imagine that would have to go higher up in the org.

If that's the case then they have bigger issues.

A manager that can't manage his clubhouse how he sees fit is an issue.
