They trust him because he's been the guy to fill in wherever when everyone else has gone down at one point or another. Him and Urias were redundant on the roster moving forward so I'm glad we have clarity there. Teams knew that so there wasn't much value to trade with Urias, not surprised on the DFA.

Yeah he's not much help at the plate but he plays multiple positions at an elite level.

If we're gonna load manage some of these injury prone guys then we need Dubon.

I was contemplating the woeful offense last year while playing Daily Walkoff today where I learned that both Tony Eusebio and Eric Anthony finished in the top 10 for Astros RBIs for the decade of the 1990s.

Eusebio had 194 RBI in the 90s
Anthony had 182.

They both are in the top 10. Horrifying.

I still don't understand the hate for Dubon. He is a super useful utility guy with multiple Gold Gloves and he is a ~.650 OPS hitter. Yeah he drives me crazy sometimes with his impatient at bats, but he is fine as an 8-9 hitter. Our problem was playing him every day and having to hit him in the middle of the lineup too much because we have too many 7/8/9 quality hitters in the lineup.

Hopefully the new hitting coaches can encourage Dubon to be more patients the plate and change his overall approach.

Dubon isn't the problem. It's him getting 370-450 ABs a season that's the problem. That's 90-100 starts. That's just too many for a defensive utility guy.

If he was getting 250 ABs it would be better. He can get those filling defensively in the 8th-9th innings or spot starts to get guys rest.

the Dubon problem will be solved if Yordan/Pena/Paredes can stay healthy this year. There's only so many starts to go around as-is

Isn't Urias nearly as good defensively at key positions of actual need and for cheaper with potential for a slightly better bat?
