these ABS challenges are interesting

in a close game...kind of need to have one in your back pocket for the 8th or 9th if necessary

i.e. the highest leverage situations

Here's how the Brewers used it during ST. It (sort of) takes the decision away from the batter. It's smart and is reasonable therefore MLB will most likely ban it.

Didn't the mlb already ban it?

Probably given how dumb MLB is run. Its nothing more than signals from a base coach but in a more efficient manner.

In my understanding of the rule, no one can be influenced to challenge. It has to be the pitcher, catcher, or batter and no one else can signal to them that they should challenge a call.

What the Brewers were doing doesnt impact that rule at all. They are not instructed on individual pitches if they should challenge or not. They are only told if they have permission or not to challenge any call diring an at bat if they believe a challenge is warranted. They are not given instruction on what to do regarding any specific pitch. In reality, coaches can and should restrict challenges to the last 3 innings of a game. Is that breaking the rule?

Dubon was entering his final year of arbitration and is making over $6M. We weren't going to resign him next year so why not get something in return while shedding almost $5M? Nick Allen is an adequate utility infielder who isn't going log as many innings as Dubon, which is great considering our surplus of infielders. He's also four years younger than Dubon and under team control through 2030.

Not to veer off topic, but the year 2030 used to seem so far away.

I went back and watched the video. MLB told the brewers they can't use the card cause it's instructing the player.

But I like that idea. I think they could relay that information before the pitch via a signal to help the batters understand the situation. We've had some head scratchers. Yainer should just not challenge if possible.

Yainer should have to prove he can recognize a slider before being allowed to challenge anything. When he continually Ks in ABs where the opposing pitcher never puts one in the strike zone, it is just proof that he has no idea where the strike zone really is.

Yup here to eat my crow. Side of mashed potatoes please.

I gave up at 5-0. Given how this offense had been performing since last year I thought it was over

11 runs without a homerun. Hopefully that gives them so confidence that they don't need to play hero ball and swing for the Crawford boxes every at bat

I think O' Hoppe has been our most valuable offensive player thus far this season. A real spark plug. What does he have? 3 throwing errors?

I'm glad they finally got a win last night, but that win doesn't happen without the Angels crapping down their leg multiple times with 2 outs. The Astros still have a lot to prove on offense. Last night was an error-aided abberation..

I didn't watch the game last night, but just watched this video now…why is our 3rd base coach always laying on the ground?

In the play I saw on the video, I think he did not want to get pegged if the Angels catcher attempted a throw to third.

perhaps more important today that O'Hoppe is in the Angels' lineup
